1) Emotional- consists of continual yelling/rage , putting a child down making him/her feel less of themselves
2) Physical- consists of repeatedly or excessively harming/beating a child with or without reasoning
3) Neglect- depriving a child of necessities such as food or water, clean living environment, proper supervision
4) Sexual- introducing a child to sexual situations or material regardless of whether the victim is touched or not

Many neighbors claimed to see it and question it however no one took a stand. After years of mistreatment authorities were alerted, but still they did not act. She even told classmate who told the teacher, yet there was still no action. Her next visit to the hospital on May 6th was due to a significant amount of blood loss. Her step mother and father said she had tried to take her life. She was placed with an aunt weighing just 48 pounds. Authorities later found she had not tried to kill herself but had been beaten with a broken metal broomstick. Though Maya was rescued and her former guardians are facing time ; what if Maya had not been taken to the hospital? Authorities waited much longer than expected to act because her case worker felt they did not have enough evidence.
