Stage 1: Trust vs Mistrust

Infancy 0-18 Months
During this stage in development, it sets a trust factor between the mother/ caregiver. It is important that the parents pay attention to the baby's needs and respond to them in a positive way. If this stage is resolved the child will develop trust. If this developmental is not met then the child will develop mistrust. This can cause the baby to have a suspicion of people and caregivers. As a child, I was a trusting baby. The reason I know this is because I was equally attached to my mom and dad, and I would often cry when I was away from their arms. My mom was also a stay-at-home mom throughout my childhood so I built a deep connection with her.

Early Childhood: 18 months- 3 years old
During this stage, the parent(s) will begin to support and encourage the child to complete tasks independently, by doing this the child will feel confident and capable of doing things alone. When this stage is resolved the child will develop autonomy. If this stage is not resolved the child will develop shame and doubt this happens when parents are over-controlling or doubt their abilities. I resolved this stage with autonomy. During this stage I learned how to use the restroom, learned how to walk, and eat all by myself. My parents also allowed me to explore the outdoors with my older brother without watching every move I made.

Stage 3: Initiative vs Guilt

Preschool 3-6 years old
During this stage of development, parents encourage the child to take initiative by problem-solving and facing challenges. During this stage, they learn how to take control of situations/environments. They also begin to think for themselves which forms a sense of self and purpose. If this stage is resolved they will develop initiative. If it isn't resolved they will develop guilt, this usually happens when parents criticize the child's choices which leads to them feeling a sense of guilt in their initiatives. | I was an initiative child because I was a “why” child I liked to explore and be outside a lot. During this age my mom allowed me to help her cook small simple meals. I also learned from lots and lots of mistakes and also things I didn’t really like.

School age 6-12 years
During this stage of development, the child is encouraged by their parents and teachers to work with peers and others. In school, they begin to learn new knowledge and social skills. if the stage is resolved they will develop industry, which allows them to take pride in their achievements. If this skill isn't resolved they will develop inferiority which will make them feel less than their peers and feel like they aren’t as good as others. In this stage, I developed industry. I resolved this stage by getting along with all my peers and even adults. During parent meetings, I was always called the social butterfly because I loved to socialize with everyone. I was also doing very well academically .

Adolescence 12-20 years
In this stage, the adolescent begins to search for a sense of self, and is a long process of exploration. The adolescent has the desire to fit in and find a sense of direction in life during this stage they develop goals, values, and beliefs. If this stage is resolved they develop an identity. If it fails to be resolved this will develop role confusion. This can later on develop a lack of direction in their future. During this stage, I started off with role confusion. I tried to do things that would make me fit in even if I didn’t really enjoy them but later towards high school I figured out who I was and found a group of friends that allowed me to be myself. It took some work but was later resolved.

Early adulthood 20-35 years

In this stage of Development This is the stage the individual can develop intimate and loving relationships with others successfully. these relationships are close bonds that are created between both individuals, this can be with friends or significant others. When this stage is resolved the individual develops intimacy. If it isn't resolved then the individual will develop isolation. This will cause the person to not be able to connect with others and not have close intimate relationships. I’m currently in but it’s being resolved I have a boyfriend of 4 years. We have both developed love, affirmation, and a close bond for one another.

Middle adult 35-65 years
This stage focuses on family, parenting, relationships, and creating meaning in their work life. during this period in the individual's life, they feel the need to create or nurture. They also want to do good in life, whether that is making a difference at work or within their family or relationship. If this stage is resolved the person will develop generatively which just means that they are getting a sense of doing good for the world. If this stage isn't resolved they will develop stagnation instead, they will feel as if they are unproductive and even have a sense of emptiness. I will resolve this by being a generative adult. I will care for my children, and family, and continue to care for my career development as an elementary educator. Later down the road I will even care and watch after my grandkids.

Late Adult 65 years old - death
During this stage of development, the individual focuses on their purpose and journey throughout their lifetime. They reflect back on their own accomplishments and contributions that they have made. They decide if they feel like they lived a fulfilling and meaningful life. If this stage of development is resolved then one develops integrity. If this stage isn't resolved then they will develop despair. This happens when one regrets how they lived their life or feels like they could've made better choices to achieve a greater purpose. I will resolve this stage by taking on integrity as a late adult. I will reflect on the accomplishments that I overcame in life and the impact I left on my student's life. I will also pass on my wisdom down to my grandchildren.
