1) Repetition of “I love” gives Bo loving and friendly characteristics, this makes Bo seem father-like.

2) “I haven’t smelt grass since I was a boy” - hyperbole. This quote tells the reader that Bo has been at sea for a really long time. We know that Bo is around 50 and if he hasn’t smelt grass since he’s a boy and has been at sea for a long time.

1. How does the characterisation of Bo continue in a similar vein to the previous chapter? Bo is portrayed as a child, as he "rolls around in the grass" this makes us believe he has child-like characteristics, such as a being friendly and naive, much like Isla.
