BIG CATS

Big cats are among the most powerful animals on the planet. They may look like oversized kitties, but they are ferocious predators. Most are “stalk and ambush” hunters, sneaking up on prey and pouncing to deliver a crushing bite to the head and neck. Wherever big cats live, they are at the top of the food chain.
Some interesting facts about Cheetahs: they are the fastest predators on land and can run at speeds of up to 113 kilometers an hour. When they spot prey, they can accelerate faster than most cars: from 0 to 96 kilometers an hour in only 3 seconds. They hunt during daytime, unlike most African predators. Cheetahs do not roar, as the other big cats do. Instead, they purr.

The largest population of tigers in the world is in the USA. There are more captive tigers in the USA alone than there are wild tigers in the entire world. Lions are the second largest big cat species in the world (behind tigers).
The average male lion weighs around 180 kg (400 lb) while the average female lion weighs around 130 kg (290 lb).
Lions can reach speeds of up to 81 kph (50 mph) but only in short bursts because of a lack of stamina. Lionesses are better hunters than males and do most of the hunting for a pride.

Cheetah
The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world. Cheetahs cannot climb trees and have poor night vision. A cheetah can accelerate from 0 to 113 km in just a few seconds.
