My personal opinion on Ruth

I personally think Ruth is a strong woman that is often not understanded due to how she acts around her family. She is very straight forwards, and even if her family isn't her blood, she still cares for them as if they were. She has sacrificed a lot in her life for the sake of her husband and son, but still tries thinking of what she has even if she complains from time to time. Since she is also older, she isn't used to modern ideas and thoughts.

A Painting Relating To Ruth

This painting relates to her because it goes perfectly with the conduction she's in. Walter, Ruth's husband is an alcoholic that often goes out and gets drunk while Ruth stays at home tired and exhausted. This painting puts all that out there for anyone reading Raisin In The Sun. The bottles of alcohol everywhere and the husband relaxed sleeping shows what Walters doing in the play as for the woman working hard next to him shows the situation Ruth is in.

This poem relates to her a lot because it shows the overall struggles of a mother. Ruth, for example would make a great example of that. She does most of the work in the house and throughout most of the play, she's ironing clothes or getting food. Even when having a caring, but offly selfish husband, she still manages to go through her irritation and sometimes confronts him, telling him with reality of certain situations they're in. That is why I think she fits very well with this poem.

As Ruth is a hard working mom, this one reminded me of the child she is carrying rather than Travis. After realising they are moving, I feel like this what she would think in her heart, knowing she can have her baby now. She has struggled a lot in live, even from her one husband and I feel like all she really has now with her is the child inside of her. Feeling the baby's heartbeat, it's movements, and it's presence overall must have a huge impact on her well being. To me, she did seem a little more peaceful after realising she was pregnant, even after thinking about abortion.

The Theme of the Play

I way I view the story is that family is very important and you can overcome a lot of struggles and difficulties with if you're together.

“Lena—I’ll work…I’ll work twenty hours a day in all the kitchens in Chicago…I’ll strap my baby on my back if I have to and scrub all the floors in America and wash all the sheets in America if I have to—but we got to MOVE! We got to get OUT OF HERE!!” P. 140

This quote shows just how impatient and uncomfortable they were in their living conditions.
After mom got hold of her fortune due to her husband death, they managed to buy a pretty good house. Ruth can look back and not get the abortion after all with the new house as there was conflict before for her meeting with the doctor. There are multiple themes in this play, but I personally think this one stands out the most. Family is very important to our lives, and even if we struggle the most, ease will eventually.
