It captures the essence of how Catholic imagination views the world because it views the world has God being present in everything around, even in the things that are not necessarily religious or connected to Catholicism

Deprived means suffering a severe and damaging lack of basic material, or suffering a lack of a specified benefit that is considered important, whereas depraved means morally corrupt/wicked. In relation to sin and deprived, I think it means that with the presence of sin, we are lacking the strength find God's grace and put aside our own desires. But with this, we are able to bring ourselves back and ask for forgiveness. With sin and depraved, I think that they are connected in the sense that sin is the devil or satan forcing this sin to happen, in a way, but I feel thinking of sin in this way cuts off the God element of sin. We are humans and we are gong to have times of weakness, but God knows and understands that, that's why he gives us his grave and forgiveness. God also doesn't allow the weaknesses of human stop his grace's from entering the world/

Father Charles begins with talking about Tolkein's sacramental imagination and worldview, and how the ordinary is the means for the extraordinary. He states that this idea is seen no where better than in elvish artfiacts. They are composed from the elements of the earth, but there seems to be something greater at play then just the elements of the earth. For example, the elvish cloaks are woven out of ordinary threads from the earth, but the cloaks embody these supernatural properties and becomes a great representation of how the visible becomes a vehicle for the invisible.

Father Charles mentions how these two plans of reality, the spiritual and the material. He also mentions how these two plans merge to a point where they become indistinguishable. This relates back to the elvish cloaks because everyone sees the magic that encompasses these cloaks, but the elves do not see or recognize the magic. This leaves the audience wondering whether or not there is magic involved or not.

The lembas bread is different from our Eucharist in multiple ways. In the Eucharist, it is derived from ordinary bread that is consecrated by priests within the liturgy and during which, its substance changes into the body of Jesus, and its reception takes place communally. It is a mystical united of the believers receiving the host with the entire body of God. The lembas bread has none of this. Its more of a scramental because its a tangible artifact of the elves that is composed of ordinary elements, but have this supernatural quality about it.

An Old Testament type is a person place or event or an institution in the Old Testament that foreshadows the person and work of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. The lembas bread could be viewed in this perspective because they make more sense in the light of a future revelation rather than a vehicle of divinity. Tolkien's world is pre-Christian, and Tolkien avoids doctrinal issues that might be distracting or make things become allegorical.
