I remember when I was teaching years ago at an English center, I was teaching students based through a book and a set of rules. So, during a lesson about advertisement, I gave the students a project to create their own ad. I brought them to a mall and they took pictures of either clothing or tech and used them in their ads. This helped bring the terms, grammar, and idea of why language is important better than they would have if we stuck to the book because they used and saw a real life applications.

When I first learned about the bar model in math, I honestly didn’t understand it—especially because I grew up in a regular village school where it wasn’t explained to us. But after I started teaching in a Cambridge school, I realized that learning math using the bar model is very helpful. It makes concepts clearer, helps us solve problems step-by-step, and really sharpens our logical thinking. And now, in the IB school, I have also learned from my colleagues and students how to use reflection as part of our learning, which has helped me personally to reflect on everything I do and keep improving.

I enjoy teaching the UOI when it focuses on health and well-being. I need to learn first and gain beneficial knowledge from the experienced teachers or leaders about the topic, to help me grasp the concept of health and furthermore help my students to know and understand the topic. My students thought that being healthy means only not being sick, and they are not familiar with other aspects of health. After we discussed in class, they now know and understand various aspects of health.
