In the Philippines they thought we would bring them freedom and independence but in reality we just took control. Usually the US did not intervene unless they thought that the country was not fit to run itself and the government was not good enough. However the US took over Hawaii for the resources that Hawaii provided, a quicker way to Asia and Europe, and for the naval ports that Hawaii had.
