1. Creating anything in Canvas is extremely time consuming. Lesson planning used to take 1-2 hours a week total and now it takes 10-12 hours a week to plan my lesson, create a lesson plan, and then create it all in Canvas with digital activities. Then everything is new to a student, so when I try to add in a fun digital activity, I spend more time teaching them how to open it, how to use it, trouble shooting computer issues than I do actual teaching the content. Which is why I try to keep it basic.

2. Join a Canvas for elementary Facebook group, I have learned more time saving tips and tricks from there than anywhere else.

3. After 11 weeks of pretty much navigating Canvas alone with no instructions or guides, I have figured out a lot on my own and feel comfortable in creating engaging and rigorous Canvas modules each week.....this issues is that I am given NO TIME during my contract hours to actually complete the 10-12 hours of work Canvas requires (lesson, digital content, videos of me modeling, etc.). Due to so many required meetings, PDs, IEPs, MTSS, parent teacher conferences etc.

WHAT TEACHERS NEED MOST RIGHT NOW IS TIME, TIME LEFT ALONE TO PLAN, CREATE AND BUILD THEIR CANVAS MODULES.

I know this is how I felt when starting this process.

2. I think the biggest piece of advice is pre-plan. I still type out lesson plans and then use post-its to plan what needs to go where in Canvas. This helps me to stay organized.

1. Identify two challenges that teachers may have when asked to create modules using pages?
A. Buy-in for using the blueprints for Reading, Math or Science simply because of experiences teachers have had so far with students turning in items to Canvas/accessing Canvas. Creating a module/pages with everything is time consuming, even with having a hang of the LMS. I think if we had slowly rolled out sections of the blueprint so that everyone isn't just thrown in the pool, we'd have less people feeling overwhelmed and burned out and instead willing to take on more challenges with a positive mindset.
B. Pacing of a module, specifically for our A/B schedule teachers. Knowing how much you'll get through in a day of in person instruction fluctuates because students are moving from HCSonline to in-person, have ipads vs. Chromebooks, missed days, limited to no internet access, etc. This might make it hard to judge just how much to include in their module.

2. What solutions would you offer to coach teachers through their challenges based on what you learned?
A. This is all trial and error. We're not going to get it right the first time or the fifth time. Therefore take it bit by bit. Start small and take only one or two parts of the blueprint to use in the module this week. At the end of the week, self reflect - what when well? What issues did I/students have? What can I do differently? Then make those changes for the next week. From there, once you're feeling a bit more confident, add something else from the blueprint to your Canvas module.
B. Rome was not built in a day. Your Canvas module won't be either! I know you want it to look cute/be more appealing to the eyes. Let's not worry about that though. Instead, lets worry about content. We can spiffy it up later once we know more about what how all the tools work within Canvas.

3. Do you feel confident in recognizing the components of a module and the effective use of pages?
YES!

It takes time to make sure that all the information is embedded and that all the objectives are met. I do think once we get rolling it will get smoother and easier to manage.
2. The suggestions I would offer to teachers is to make a rough draft of what you would like to have the module look like or copy the blueprint plans that have been made for us to use. Use the lesson plans and let than guide you. Think of how you would teach in your classroom and follow that.
3. I feel confident in recognizing the components of a module and the benefits to the students to have it to reference back to in their learning. I like how we can make pages personal and suited for our lessons.

2. A solution that I would offer is to plan accordingly and start with the end in mind. Also put some sort of accountability piece in place to ensure students are viewing all pages. It could be a code word in a video on a page or a hidden picture. Something to ensure that they were looking at each page.
3. Yes I feel comfortable with modules and pages.

1. Two challenges teachers might face when creating modules using places is forgetting the order of things and using them to communicate the wrong information. It might also not include enough information for students to accurately complete assignments/tasks.
2. I would say to have an order to what you put in your modules. Maybe number the pages/assignments etc. so you know what goes where and how to find it.
3. I think I am confident in how to use a module and pages effectively.

1. Identify two challenges that teachers may have when asked to create modules using pages? Teachers may be unsure of what content to put on the page. Teachers may also not be confident about planning for misconceptions.
2. What solutions would you offer to coach teachers through their challenges based on what you learned? I would encourage teachers to think about how their lesson is set up in class. A module should follow a similar process. Pages should break down different parts of the lesson.
3. Do you feel confident in recognizing the components of a module and the effective use of pages? Yes, I feel comfortable with modules and pages.

1. One challenge teachers may face when creating modules with pages is that you have to know what you are going to include ahead of time. Pages are limited and cannot include questions or submissions and therefore you would need some sort of external piece to hold students accountable. They also take a lot of time to prepare and completely create and therefore are just time consuming. There are just a lot of elements that go within each module and that takes time and a lot of thought can go into creating each one, especially when customizing it to be interesting for students.
2. A solution to offer would be to create plans before creating material on Canvas. Know what you plan to do before starting so you don't lose track of where you are and what you want to do on Canvas. Just have ideas beforehand.
3. Is the font large enough, do the links work, are the students able to understand the instructions on their own. Do the students know what to do when they need help? How do they know they have finished everything for the day?
