Alfred the Great - King of Wessex from 871-899. The first of the Anglo-Saxon rulers of Britain began to call himself the King of England.
As a result of the wars with the Danes, who advanced from East Anglia to Mercia and Wessex, part of the territory was liberated from them; however, by a peace treaty (around 886), Northern and Eastern England remained under the rule of the Danes.
Alfred waged a protracted war with the Danes, who were trying to gain a foothold on the island, but due to low morale, his troops suffered one defeat after another.
Religion: christianity.
He died in 899 and was buried in Winchester. The crown of England went to his son Edward.
He should not have become king

In 871, after the death of Ethelred, King of Wessex and brother of Alfred, his son, Ethelwold, was to succeed him according to ancient custom. But not long before that, the brothers agreed that if one of them died, the other would receive his lands and titles. When the time came, the Witenagemot (the assembly of the wise men of the kingdom) recognized Alfred as the new king of Wessex.

The Celtic Period

1. In the period from the 6th to the 3rd century A.D., a people called the Celts, who supposedly originated from the sources of the Danube River, spread throughout Europe from east to west.
Some Celtic tribes – Iberians, Picts, Scots and Britons - invaded Britain.

2. The Celts had their own pagan religion, a lot of gods they worshipped, a rich mythology. Lug is the patron god of crafts and arts. Including the art of war. Taranis is the god of thunder, the patron of the natural elements: winds, storms, thunderstorms, rain. Cernun is the patron god of the forest kingdom, trees and all plants and animals.
Brigita is the female goddess of love. The Picts penetrated the mountains in the north; the Scots settled in the North next to the Picts.

3. They came in such large numbers that over time this country was given the name Scotland. The powerful Celtic tribes, the Britons, owned most of the country, and the southern half of the island was named Britain in their honor. The Iberians were unable to repel the attacks of the Celts, armed with metal spears, swords, daggers and axes. Most of them were exiled to the west, to the mountains, and where Wales is now.

4. The well–known Halloween holiday actually has Celtic roots, its original Celtic name is Samhain (or Samhain or Shroud). According to the beliefs of the Celts, on this day, October 31, the doors between the world of the living and the world of the dead are slightly opened. With the advent of Christianity, this holiday acquired a Christian coloring, it began to be called "All Hallows eve", and the tradition of going to cemeteries, remembering deceased relatives comes from Celtic beliefs.

The Normans are the army of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy. The Normans converted to Christianity, brought the French language with them. The period of the attack on England begins from 1066 to the approximate year 1071. As a result, William the Conqueror
achieved the crown and captured England, made a census of the entire population, distributed land to his knights, but kept most of it for himself and took away land from most of the local feudal lords. England and Normandy unite. Army Feature: Most of them were mercenaries, and there weren't that many Normans themselves. The army of England had a large number - about 20 thousand, and William had 7-8 thousand and his army won, because Harold died during the war, and William was famous among the army for his ability to use tactics and he was called a brave and intelligent knight.
