What I do, and Why I do It

I currently work at two jobs while going to school at Western Oregon. I have been working at the Human Bean in Salem for about a year and half as a barista! It is the best job I have ever had and I am constantly feeding my coffee addiction (Convenient). This summer I also started working or Salem Child Development Center as a Kindergarten teacher. It has been the biggest blessing and challenge as I have been going to school. I enjoy the little minds of my 5 year old friends and they teach me more and more everyday. This is what I do and I do it because all of these things make me more happy than I have been in a long time.

I am 21 years old and this is my third year in college and first year at WOU! When I graduated high school I went to Chemeketa Community College for two years and got my associates there. After I finished there I moved out of my parents house and into my first apartment and waited about two terms to get on my feet before I started here.
I am the oldest of 5 siblings whom are 18,14,8,3, and 1. There are a lot of us and we aren't all related by blood but we are family! I come from a split family and I take it as more of a strength than a personal weakness, because it has shown me more clearly that this career path is the one for me. Blessings on blessings!

Since I started my last year at Chemeketa I started dating my best friend who has motivated me more than anyone in this career path I have chosen for myself. He is in the army in ROTC at OSU and it has been the biggest challenge thus far. He will be officially commissioned in June and thats where the future starts!

Why teaching??

I have battled since sophomore year of high school on what I wanted to do for a career and constantly switching it up. I went from interior designer, fashion designer and forensic science technician. None of which made sense for me. I wanted a career that would make me more money than happiness because for some reason that is all we think about these days! But for most of my senior year I was working with children and I had been leaders for camps and it just made sense. I have always been in love with the childlike mind. It wanders in innocence and it is there for us to love and mold. It was never so clear that happiness was so much more important than the extra figures I had each year.
