This was one of the first big steps taken by the international community to closely monitor the transmission of the disease and post updates for the population to stay up to date. International organizations such as the CDC, WHO, and other large Public Health organizations became directly involved in reducing the spread of disease. Due to the infectious nature of the disease and being easily transmissible among person to person there needed to be new strategies to implement. This concept map will go over some of the implementations strategies used to combat the transmission of this deadly disease.

Vaccination provided a strong level of protection and immunity against the virus and proved to be effective in clinical trials and in the real world. The rapid implementation of vaccines into the wider-public allowed for more people to be immune and less likely to transmit the virus. Mask mandates were required in many key locations where there are lots of interactions and contact among people, for example, a transportation terminal. This image depicts a protest taking place in New Zealand against the vaccine mandate. There are many reasons for not wanting to take the vaccine such as distrust for the government, distrust in the disease, misinformation, etc. One big problem for global health is misinformation leading to bad decision-making and risky behavior during a state of emergency. WHO even has a term for this definition which is called an "infodemic" which is when too much misinformation spreads during an emergency. Many people choose to not trust this information and reject prevention measures such as vaccination.
