It was nonfiction, and usually I do not like nonfiction, but I liked this one. The tile made me turn up my nose and I think it is a little immature. The book more than makes up for that. The book told a story while feeding me facts about Timbuktu which is what I like about it. So would I recommend this book? And I did some research about them. I found out that these scholars were offered scholarships and business that made the Timbuktu city rich. This is how the scholars got so rich and were able to afford big houses. Being a scholar was not all fun and games there was a time when the tyrant Soni Ali was murdered all the scholars and they had to leave their homes in order to stay safe. When the scholars left town so did the ancient manuscripts. This is why all the manuscripts are found in Mauritania today. We often give other countries bad stereotypes. This is important to know this because it is the same way here. The people that have a lot of money and the bigger houses work at places the city is counting on. This is because they keep the city running. Like people that work at Honda make a lot of money because they have to work really hard. If Honda does not get any business and has to shut down then our city would lose money. So as you can see there are little things that we have in common and we need to focus on things that are the same not different.
