Type of Music: Jazz
Lyrics:
It's three o'clock in the morning
We've danced the whole night through
And daylight soon will be dawning
Just one more waltz with you
That melody so entrancing
Seems to be made for us two
I could just keep on dancing forever dear with you
Context: Gatsby had thrown a party and Tom and Daisy, the love of his life, were leaving together early in the morning.

Significance: This is significant because it shows that Daisy left Tom over Gatsby and the song represents Fitzeragald's theme of the corrupt and crushed American dream. Gatsby didn't end up with the love of his life and the song is talking about how in love the couple in the song is which is ironic, displaying his crushed dream.
How it affects the mood of the book: This affects the mood of the book because it portrays to the reader that not everything in their fancy life is perfect and it transforms the mood to disappointment. In almost every love story, Gatsby would have ended up with Daisy. However, in this book they do not end up together creating the mood of corruption and reality of the American Dream
Video/Audio:

He plays this song hoping to remind her of the good times they had.
How it affects the mood of the book: This song affects the mood of the book by making the reader hopeful that Daisy and Gatsby will get back together. According to Gatsby, they were so in love so it makes the readers hopeful that something will happen.
Audio/ Video:

Beal Street Blues by Chris Barber

Type of Music: Jazz
Lyrics:
If Beale Street could talk, if Beale Street could talk,
Married men would have to take their beds and walk,
Except one or two who never drink booze,
And the blind man on the corner singing "Beale Street Blues!"

I'd rather be there than any place I know,
I'd rather be there than any place I know,
It's gonna take a sergeant for to make me go!

I'm goin' to the river, maybe by and by,
Yes, I'm goin' to the river, maybe by and by,
Because the river's wet, and Beale Street's done gone dry!

Context: Gatsby had waited up all night in front of Daisy's house hopping she would come out, but she never did. He told Nick about how they had met and how she had chosen to marry Tom.
Significance: This is a turning point in Gatsby and Daisy's realtionship because there is no longer a hope for the two to be together in the future. The song shows Gatsby's feelings toward life now. He is upset that he didn't get what he wanted and doesn't want anything to do with the society what so ever.
How it affects the mood of the book: This affects the mood of the book because now the reader has no hope for Gatsby and Daisy. The song shows a different outlook on the society and how it changes people and how it is not all that and a bag of chips. The reader is now starting to see all of the negative things about this society and the song furthered the idea of corruption.
Audio/Video:

The Music Used in the Great Gatsby Intro

The Great Gatsby was set in the time of the "Jazz Age". During this time period, morals are becoming loser, rules are being broken, and the wealthy are living more scandalous lives. During this time, American culture was recreated and it all seemed like fun and games. However, Fitzgerald portrayed the ugly side of all of this fun in his book, and mainly through the music in the book. With the music used, there is a common theme of the corruption of the American Dream and a care free lifestyle. These songs also show the reckless lives the rich live and the struggle of the middle and lower class. Overall the music throughout the book portrays the lifestyle of the rich and the idea of the corrupted American Dream. For example, Gatsby is seen to be living the American Dream with a large house, a very expensive car, and high social class. However he was still not happy.

Marry Me by Thomas Rhett

Type of Music: Country
Lyrics:
She wants to get married, she wants it perfect
She wants her grandaddy preaching the service
Yeah, she wants magnolias out in the country
Not too many people, save her daddy some money

Ooh, she got it all planned out
Yeah, I can see it all right now

I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back
I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yeah, she wanna get married
But she don't wanna marry me

I remember the night when I almost kissed her
Yeah, I kinda freaked out, we'd been friends for forever
And I always wondered if she felt the same way
When I got the invite, I knew it was too late

How it connects to the mood of the story:
This song can directly relate to the mood of the book. This song is about a guy who has been best freinds with this girl for a long time. He falls in love with her but by the time he wants to do something about it its too late because she is getting married to someone else. Even though "Three O'clock in the Morning" is about a couple who are deeply in love, the message portrayed in the story is the same. The song is ironically played to display disappointment in the idea that Daisy left the party with Tom. The song "Marry Me" conveys the exact same message. The Gatsby is realizing he was too late and that Daisy married someone else. Overall, "Marry Me" conveys the idea of a disappointment with a love.
Audio/Video:

This song is talking about two people in love. The guy is saying he doesn't care about all of the money they don't have he is simply in love with there. "Ain't We Got Fun" is saying the exact same thing. The man in the song is telling the girl that he loves her no matter what. This related to the mood because Gatsby is reminding Daisy of the love they had which is equally portrayed in the song "Next to You, Next to Me"

Type of Music: Country
Lyrics:
I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Til the landslide brought it down
Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older, too

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older, too
Oh, I'm getting older, too

I took my love, I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down
Oh, the landslide will bring it down

How it connects to the mood of the story:
This song is about a girl who devoted her life to this man who she thought she loved deeply, however he cheated on her. This can relate to Gatsby because he devoted his life to Daisy and reconnecting with her, and it never really happened. "Beal Street Blues" is about someone describing a place that seemed to be great as a place that is terrible and full of sin and heartbreak. The person also says that he will never willingly go there. The song portrays Gatsby's feelings after Daisy did not come outside the house. Although the meaning of the two songs are different, the same mood is portrayed. In "Beal Street Blues", it sets the mood that Gatsby is fed up with the place that keeps leaving him disappointed and crushed. "Landslide" also potrays the mood that the girl is fed up with what she revolved her life around and won't go back.
Audio/Video:
