The Third Pillar is zakat which is translated to charity. Muhammad told the wealthy people to give some of their riches with the less fortunate. Muslims must share about 2.5 percent some of their wealth each year. Zakat is similar to other religions, like Jews and Christians also ask and give donations. These things support their homes of worship and cahritable activities.

Muslims may worship anywhere, but the most preferable place to pray at, is a mosque. At a mosque, everyone sits on the floor to show their equality of status. Islamic people usually pray at a mosque on fridays for the special day of prayer, and women sit apart from men. Though, they may also gather at the mosque during the times of the five daily prayers.

The religion Islam, was founded by Muhammad in the 7th century. Muhammad was born somewhere around 570 C.E. in Makkah. In 610 C.E. Muhammad was called by the angel Gabriel to be a messenger for God. During the time of Muhammad, Islam spread very quickly throught Southwest Asia, across North Africa to Spain, and to Central Asia nearly to China. Islam is the second largest religion after Christianity. It is so big, groups of Muslims live in nearly every country in the word. The two foundations of Islam are Qur'an and the Sunnah. The Qur'an is Islam's holy book and Sunnah is the term to use when talking about the example that Muhammad set for Muslims about how to live. The simplest acts of worship for Muslims are called the Five Pillars of Islam. They are declaration of faith, prayer, charity, fasting, and keeping a rememberence of Makkah.

The Qur'an is a book Muslims follow that contains simple commandments . These commandments were set by Muhammeds actions. One commandment is having good hospitality such as welcoming guests with food and comfort. It is also important to be nice to all, and have mercy, like forgiving others who wronged you. This follows the teaching that if you forgive others God can forgive you. Muhammed informed children to be respectful to his/her parents. The Sunnah is a different book Muslims follow. It simply teaches how to practice the commandments written in the Qur'an.
