Inquiry based learning helps students to research information for themselves and allows them a level of control in their own learning. Jigsaw method also draws on many of the key skills that the new curriculum requires such as "managing myself," "being literate," "working with others," "communicating" and also "managing information and thinking."

I incorporated many key skills in my lessons over the duration of my placement. These skills are vital for developing independent, critical thinking young adults and also for developing numeracy and literacy skills.
In relation to the key skill working with others (WWO) I included a lot of group work such as jigsaw method, projects and group posters. This helps the students develop good relationships and appreciate the value of cooperating with one another to reach goals. While completing the key skill (WWO) the communication (C) skill would also have been incorporated. This is vital for developing literacy. Students would have had to brainstorm and research to come up with ways of carry out experiments which leads us to the key skills of being creative (BC) and managing information and thinking (MI&T). I constantly encouraged the students and created a positive learning environment where students felt safe to share their thoughts and opinions - which involves the key skill of staying well (SW).

I brought in these bottles of ''blood'' so the students could see how much blood was in the human body. I then asked them did they think it would take long for our bodies to bleed out if we got a cut? The majority answered no. I then stabbed the side of the drum and let the bottles empty out. The students where mesmerized at just how quick this happen. They then understood why it was so important to apply pressure to a large open wound.
