Rolheiser and my future career

One point that Rolheiser brought up is the idea of humiliation. One point of humiliation that is seen is through Simon of Cyrene. Simon went to Jerusalem for Passover. While he was there, he witnessed Jesus' crucifixion. When Jesus was carrying His cross in the street, He collapsed. He looked at Simon in the crowd, and Simon felt like he was chosen by Jesus. Simon went into the street, and helped Jesus carry the cross. He probably did not want to do this, but he had to do the thing no one else wanted to do. This action made a huge impact. The phrase "carrying others' cross" is powerful. We can help others carry their crosses and make the world to them. This is a huge concept in healthcare, which is what I would like my future profession to be. Healthcare is a rewarding field, but it can be really hard. There are days where I will deal with things others may think is disgusting, such as cleaning up puke, poop, blood, and more. But, it can make such a huge difference in people's lives. Being in healthcare can quite literally save a life. That is humiliating ourselves; helping others while they are in pain.
