Komen 3-day walk. The walk is meant to help raise money for breast cancer; which is one of the leading forms for women to be diagnosed. I choose this organization for how many lives breast cancer has affected. When I arrived, we organized the tents for those walking. We made the beds by putting sheet covers and pillowcases and putting up the outside seating. They are given the opportunity to listen to speakers in these fields and ask them questions. The young girls were able to interact with others with similar interests. Speakers told them about the different opportunities that would be available to them in the future. I choose this organization because like these girls I have interest in science. This to me is a fantastic way for them to see all the opportunities that are available to them. In helping the conference, I passed out breakfast to the students and showed them to the rooms. In this year alone 275 volunteers and 600 walkers showed up in support of the cause of breast cancer. Many students from Brookhaven that I worked with came for all sorts of reasons. Somewhere in the nursing program, other came for family members, and some went for the good of the cause. Breast cancer reaches people from all walks of life, for it impacts people from all over the world. It influenced me by wanting to get out there to do more things like this. I see things in a new view and appreciate people so much more.
Reach For the Stars: 
Over 20 volunteers helped in getting the conference ready for the 7th and 8th-grade girls. This impacted the Farmer Branch community by bringing these young girls to the idea of being a Brookhaven student in the future. By doing this, they are shown who they can become! If it were not for this experience, I would not decide what it is I want to do in life. My future involves something in science while being outdoors.

People left feeling more motivated to do something than ever before. Hearing peoples stories were my biggest reward ranging from family members, survivors, and caretakers. Listening to people thriving through painful circumstances gave me hope. In the conference, a reward I faced was seeing children feel inspired. Knowing that the world is going to end up better than it is now is a significant reward. Challenges were at both these events. There were long downtime's when volunteers had to wit for people to help. When you give you time and effort to something, you feel invested. Not only are you inspiring people by what you are doing, but you learn more about who you are as a person.
