         <description><![CDATA[<div>Boxing gloves from 1920s- Boxing was a very famous sport in the 20s. There were many fights during this area. People would go to these fights and it was a big entertainment for them. It was also a place where the people socialized. World Heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey dominated the sport through much of the decade. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Flapper is one of the most essential parts of the 1920’s. Flapper’s at the time were considered less than respectable. The importance of them were to redefine the role of women in society and how young women defined themselves. They wore short dresses, makeup became apart of the attire, they used accessories including stockings, headbands, feather boa and jewelry. The flapper attire also included a ‘bob’ type of hair cut.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-These hats were very popular with women in the roaring twenties. Women in the Jazz Age did not leave the house without a hat or some type of head covering. These hats would typically cost around $2.50 and were  designed to cover a woman’s forehead, which gave her a sense of protection in public. They often featured embroidery, geometric shapes, jewels, or ribbon.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the 1920's, a women cutting their hair was very serious. Long hair was considered feminine but short hair was not. Men thought it was strange for girls to have boy haircuts and many women were judged for it. Frizzy curls and waves on the side of the face were the preference in the early 20's followed by smoother, sculpted waves in the mid twenties.</div>]]></description>

These were some of the books used in schools teaching students how to read, write, and spell.  Schools back then were also separated by race. Teachers were paid very poorly aswell. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the 1920's they were very racially biased and wanted to separate white and colored people. This water fountain is one example of the separation. They also had different schools, and had to be separated in some public places like buses. African Americans had nowhere near the same rights as white people did.</div>]]></description>
