I am so excited to have your student join me through this school year, and to be able to be a part in helping your kindergartners move onto their next grade with confidence! This year we want to focus on their knowledge of learning new words and their relation to phonics. We also want to touch heavily on the basics of addition and subtraction, as well as number sorting.

We have twice a week an art and a music class implemented into the students schedules which allow them to broaden their interests and pick up new talents or hobbies.

Another great thing to mention would be the importance of our students utilizing the workings of the websites iStation and Dreambox. They are online accessible sites that allow the students to properly track and monitor their growth throughout the year. This is something they will be required to completely throughout in school hours, and can be easily taken home for any extra help. Often these sites will include things such as quizzes that can be masked as games and fun characters as you complete chapters. It is a great tool and we can’t wait to introduce you student to it!

Now a little about me…
My name is Brooke Malloy, the students call me Miss. M or Miss Malloy— but my parents can call me whatever feels comfortable, [I’ll respond to anything!] I have studied at Saint Leo University where I have had the pleasure of gaining experience through nearby schools as a volunteer teacher or a teaching aid. I have had the pleasure of working at Lake Saint George Elementary, where I was then moved the following year to Curtis Fundamental Elementary School where I was able to study with one of the most organized and “seasoned” kindergarten teachers the school had (25+ years of experience with K)

I can’t deny, I am a Gen Z who can be glued to their cell phone outside of school times. With that being said, I can respond to text messages during the school weeks anytime between the hours of 6am -10pm. I cant say I can get all things solved in those times but I will try and respond as quickly as I can for those immediate questions.

With the usage of class dojo throughout the school year, I will have the more formal questions that don’t need to be answered right away to be directed to class dojo (site see below post). Once I have all of our parents/guardians accounts set up I will add everyone into a group chat. - in this, parents can see updates of what their student is doing throughout the day via pictures I can send, or even just for any communications we would need to have as a group. Things to look forward in that you would see under these announcements would be things such as the parent breakfast, school PJ day, any school spirit week, school pictures coming up, field day, and even future field trip polls could be had over this site. (Yes! You could play a hand in where your student could go for a field trip!!)

This is something we strive for daily! We want our students to feel safe and comfortable enough to ask any questions, make mistakes and take some risks! And we stress that there are no silly questions!!

In doing this, students feel freely to ask and get help as they are needing it, and we aren’t missing any students with underlying questions because they didn’t feel comfortable asking.

Students need the ability to go over their work in quiet and persistent environment. Meaning, they do need to be monitored as they are working, but it is best to eliminate the surrounding distractions such as siblings playing nearby, the TV sound, or even things such as not being at home can affect how they do their school work in outside of school times.

So be sure to follow these steps as you see your Kiddo starting their school:

Turn off the TV.
separate them from distractions.
Ensure they are in a well lit, quiet environment.

Often the students will have learned a ton of new information each day they are in school, and it can make them more motivated and excited to be in the learning environment daily when they get the chance to tell the people the look up to most how their days went in school and what they have learned about. Things like this can help them stay on track or even help you see where they went wrong with certain subjects and if they need some support from their elders.
