Hello class, my name is Jose Saenz I’m 19 years old, I’m from Valencia, Venezuela, I came here to the United States in 2016 and have lived it ever since. I am currently enrolled as a business major for Miami dade college, as well as a part time worker at Nike. I have an older sister that lives with me as well as both of my parents. There is a lot of things that I have always loved to do, I played soccer for 10 years as well as basketball for 6, I have always loved to play sports and have always been very passionate about competitions. I am very proud of the person I have become, I’m always in top of my school work as well as very responsible during work, some of my personal weeknesses are that I tend to sleep a lot which shortens my opportunity to complete my responsibilities, I have to say I’m exited to meet all of you guys and looking forward to seeing you soon.

After watching the video and analzying everything that was said, I can safely say it was a shocker to realize what climate change has really done to the city of Miami, I have lived here for 6 years and I am only realizing now the effects that all this hurracanes and tropical storms are having on our city. It really caught my attention how it was said that due to this climate change, climate gentrification is now a very serious topic, I had no knowledge what the defition of this word was, but after watching the video it chaught my eye how people are moving to cheaper as well as poorer areas simply because of their geographical position, meaning they would rather live in a worst area where the housing is cheaper as long as they do not run the risk for flooding on their houses due to the level of the water in this areas.

This videos from The Story of stuff talks about a company named Double Mountain Brewery who team up with other Oregon breweries companies to create a new design for bottles and the goal is to reduce plastic waste as much as possible. This idea led the company to create a refilable glass bottle that can get re-washed and reused for many different times. The bottle has kept more than a billion contairners out of landfills and the environment, it also keeps costumers coming back, they have created a bond with the company due to the product being able to be reused. The process after a consumer buys the product would be to use the machine created by the company to send the bottle back, after the company recieves the bottles, they wash them and refill them with their product, and lastly they send their products back to stores for sale.

The video that I selected was "The system That Can Completely Eliminate Single-Use Bottles"

https://www.storyofstuff.org/movies/bottle-deposit-system/

Why the US isn't ready for clean energy

After watching the why is the US not ready for clean energy I can say I learned a lot of new things, The US uses a lot of renewable energy sources and is looking to have even more within the next 10 years. It really caught my attention how energy generally gets distributed to people's homes in today's energy plants. It starts with a power plant which sends the electricity to transmission lines to then be transported into substations that maintain them and send them to distribution lines to finally be sent to our homes, this process really caught my attention since I was unaware of the process in which electricity generally goes through to get to our homes. In Washington DC they are looking to have 100% renewable energy by the year 2032, but having so many energy-renewable sources in the middle of the country, the US will be required to have many transmission lines to transport this energy into everyone's homes around the country.

It is very clear that the Everglade's toxic chemicals affect our wildlife, killing many of the animals that live under this water and have lived there for decades. This has been a problem for many years now, however, it does not get talked about enough since we do not know how it affects us as humans. This toxic alga affects us in many ways, the Everglades have been used as a recreational place for many of us for years, and this toxic waste has made it near impossible to be able to do so. The Everglades had also been a very important source to provide water for our consumption but due to this catastrophic contamination, it is impossible for us to consume this water. It is very important that we take care of this issue since not only has it destroyed hundreds of ecosystems, but it is very clear that it also affects us and will continue to affect us unless we take action.
https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/earth-systems/blog/floridas-algae-problem-what-is-it-and-how-can-it-affect-you/

For this post I selected my classmate Enrique and his padlet, he is also from Venezuela and same as as me, it was very interesting to see his padlet and all the good stuff he talks about there. His take on climate gentrification helped me realize how big of a problem it is in many of our own neighborhoods as well as how it has affected a large population of people here in Miami. It is also very interesting is take on the story of stuff, since he talks about of electronics are made to be disposed quickly and with less use for them after. One last thing I learned from his padlet is how tourism has been affected by climate change since there are many touristic destinations that souly depend on their climate and these have been affected due to this chamges in the ecosystem. It was vey interesting to see another classmatesd padlet as well as to learn from it, i will be looking forward to reading more of them to keep my knowledge growing.

An effective way to supply freshwater to dry regions of the world is by the desalination of ocean water. Freshwater is under higher demand due to climate change, but there are less freshwater resources available. By using ocean water to create freshwater, desalination can help solve this issue. Desalination is the process of purifying seawater so that it can be used by humans by eliminating salt and other minerals. Desalination technology has advanced over time, and it is now more economical and available to developing nations. In order to reduce their carbon impact, several desalination facilities use renewable energy sources including solar and wind energy.Desalination can be a long-term solution for arid places, but it is not without obstacles. The process consumes a lot of energy, which may be costly, and disposing of the salt brine can be hazardous to the environment. However, with good management and technological investment, desalination may offer a stable source of freshwater for communities who desperately need it.To summarize, ocean water desalination is a technique that may offer freshwater to dry locations across the world. It is a long-term solution that can assist communities in adapting to climate change and ensuring access to clean water.

To be honest, my expectation for this class was set very high, as a student of miami dade for more than 2 years I had gotten recommended this class by one of my advisors. I typically do not like or understand many science classes so my feeling when coming into this one was more of a confusion since I didn't know what the dynamics looked like.

While in the course I can surely say I loved it and enjoyed it very much, the class activities made me feel like I was learning new things with every class that would happen, as well as my enjoyment with the class would keep increasing since the activities were very interesting and kept me interacting all the time. My experience was very different from what I expected since I thought the class would have a lot of online homework as well as many in-class assignments, However, I was wrong since all work for this class was done in class which made it simpler to always show up and get the job done.

I can safely say this class met my expectations as well as surpassed them since I got recommended this class as a good alternative to other science since my major is not science related. I can say that the activities from this class did make me see science from another perspective and due to this class I can say finally enjoyed taking a science class since the interactions, as well as the activities, made it very persuasive to always want to be in the class learning.
