Exercise 13 Attending a foreign university has a number of advantages over attending a large Chinese university. To begin with, class sizes tend to be smaller at foreign universities. And many students find it easier to learn in smaller classes. Additionally, tutors have more time to spend with each student. So students have more opportunities to become acquainted with their tutors. Another advantage is that critical thinking, which is an indispensable skill in the modern world, is stressed in most foreign universities. This is vital because people with critical thinking skills may be more successful in finding employment in foreign companies or foreign countries. A third advantage is that attending a foreign university can help students build relationships with people of other nationalities and learn to understand them and their cultures. This is important because if students wish to do business with foreigners in the future, this ability will prove invaluable. At foreign universities, students learn how to read and write foreign languages such as English at a high level and have opportunities to communicate with foreign students. Although, students can do this in Chinese universities, they will have more opportunities to do this in foreign universities. Finally, learning foreign languages gives students many more opportunities to succeed in the modern world.

Exercise 14 Gene therapy research was successful at first. Although, this study experienced some problems, researchers claimed they had made significant progress because they could cure disease, for example, fibrosis and cancer. Yet researchers were not able to cure cystic fibrosis ad cancer because the results of the experiments were not accurate. In addition, the results came from small numbers of patients, so there was not enough evidence. Also, there were problems with the clinical trials and the relationship between biotechnology companies and researchers was a problem, even if the researchers made the results of the experiments seem successful. However, if biotechnology companies continued to give the researchers funding as the research has the potential to find cures, eventually, this research could cure cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Although it experienced some problems, researchers claimed that they had made significant progress that they could cure diseases such as cystic fibrosis and cancer. However, there was not enough evidence to prove that they were able to cure the diseases due to the results of the experiments, coming from small numbers of patients, were not accurate. What’s worse, there were problems with the clinical trials like the relationship between biotechnology companies and researchers. Only if researchers made the results of the experiments seem successful, biotechnology companies will continue to give them funding.

There are more advantages to study in a foreign college than a domestic college. To begin with, the scale of foreign classes are always small.A lot of students find it easy to learn in such classes and tutors are able to pay more attention to their students,so students have more opportunities to be familiar with their tutors.Another advantage is that most overseas universities emphasize critical thinking, which is indispensable in this modern world. It’s important because the person who have this ability is more likely to find a job in foreign companies or even foreign countries. Besides, these colleges can help students build relationships with people who’s nationality are different as well as learn about their culture. If students want to do business with foreigners, this ability is priceless. The third merit is that students are able to read and write a foreign language, like English,in a higher level and communicate with students abroad.Although students can do it in domestic colleges, they will have more opportunities abroad.Last but not least, learning foreign languages enable students to succeed in the modern world.

Additionally, there were problems with the clinical trials and the relationship between biotechnology companies and researchers was a problem.Because if researchers made the results of the experiments seem successful, biotechnology companies continued to give the researchers funding.
