Trench Warfare was known especially for the millions of lives that it took. The style of trench warfare caused many stalemates on the battlefield because of the large space in between coupled with the fast firing weapons. The area in between trenches was known as no man's land because anyone in that space could be easily picked off. No side could advance closer because the trenches were dug out and advancing was suicide.

Trench Warfare was a very poor and inefficient way of fighting on the battlefield so one must wonder why it was ever used in the first place. The original reason for trench warfare was to keep the army in one place and to set up a place to sleep and to have a good defense for an enemy advance.
