Most devices have built in speakers and microphones that work great for Amira.

Amira works by keying in on the foreground voice, much like Siri.
How does it work in a noisy classroom?

Amira can handle a lot of noise, but there are limits. When your classroom exceeds the limit, Amira raises her hand and lets the teacher know.

Amira would not work well in PE class or a bustling cafeteria. Some classrooms would have a noise level similar to those spaces during some activities. That might not be the best time for Amira without headsets.

Amira works to lock in on the foreground voice, so we suggest that students don’t sit directly side by side or shoulder to shoulder. That puts their voices going in the same exact direction into the microphones. However, if the devices are back to back, then the student voices are not going in the same direction.

Students Receiving Speech Support

Students that may be receiving speech support present challenges because of the variability in the types and extent of the challenge. Amira is currently being used in several schools where these speech patterns are exhibited, but we can't predict how soon there will be sufficient data to support speech recognition for all speech challenges.

We encourage our teachers to listen to the students recordings, and rescore them if needed. By rescoring the student's transcript you're helping "teach" Amira and make her accuracy even better. While we don't want teachers or administrators to feels as though they need to rescore every passage, please know that our team uses rescored passages to re-train Amira's scoring models throughout the year, so every little bit helps!

If you see Amira way off with a student's scoring and you would like us to investigate, please send our support team an email to support@amiralearning.com with the following information:
District
School
Teacher
Student's name
Stories
