1. DI is flexible grouping. I think sometimes we get stuck in grouping our students based on ability as opposed to putting strengths with needs when appropriate.

2. DI is NOT chaotic. It is not losing control of what goes on in the classroom.

3. DI is " a way of life". It is not just a strategy to be used in the classroom. It is truly taking the time to get to know each student and adjust teaching as needed so that every student can learn.

1. What it is:
DI is constant evolution in the classroom. The teacher proactively plans a variety of ways for students to learn and show their learning.

2. What it isn't:
DI is not individualized instruction without student interaction. Work is not just increased or decreased for the students based on their level of understanding.

3. Take-away:
While I read this chapter, I 'know' that DI is the best method of instruction. But, time and test scores are always big factors in my mind as I plan my instruction. It is extremely frustrating to know how I should teach, but not be able to teach that way.

What it is:
Ironically enough I liked the section that said DI is more qualitative than quantitative. DI is not simply adding more to higher achievers or taking away some from lower achievers, it's about building in opportunities to meet each student where they are at with quality instruction.
What it is not:
It is not killing yourself, as the teacher, trying to individualize instruction for each of the students. It is not another way to group students into crazy out-of-control groups. It is not just for those students who stand out as different, but it's for everyone!
I feel like there are many ideas of what DI looks like out there from professionals and co-workers. I look forward to getting a better idea of what DI looks like here at EYSD from the cohort.
