This book has 3 stories about kids who are really struggling.     
 The first story is about a boy named Josef. Josef is a young jewish boy in Germany in 1930. At the time, the Nazis have overcome Germny and with treat of concentration camps looming quickly. He and his family have to sail away to the other side of the world for protection.

The second story is about a Cuban girl in 1994. The girl's named is Isabel. Her contry is filled with riots and unrest. To find safety, her and her family go an a raft to America.

The last story ia about a boy named Mahmoud. Mhmoud is a Syrain boy in 2015. His homeland is plagued with violence  and destrution. He and his family begin a long journey to Europe.
