         <title>Roman Engineering </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Roman engineering had a large influence on Roman architecture. Arches were used a lot due to their strength. The Romans also used domes as they enabled them to build large ceilings with wide open spaces. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Colosseum was huge. It could seat 50,000 people. It covers around 6 acres of land and is 620 feet long, 512 feet wide, and 158 feet tall. It took more than 1.1 million tons of concrete, stone, and bricks to complete the Colosseum.</div>]]></description>

Greek city-states formed all along the Aegean coastline and on the many islands in the Aegean Sea. The people of Greece used the Aegean to travel from city to city. The Aegean also provided fish for the people to eat.</div>]]></description>

They were well protected by the natural boundaries of the desert that surrounded the empire.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Mandate of Heaven is what the Chinese people believed gave their rulers the right to be king or emperor. It meant that the gods had blessed that person with the right to rule. A ruler had to be a good and just ruler to keep the Mandate of Heaven. When a ruler or dynasty lost power, this meant that they must also have lost the Mandate of Heaven.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There were a number of different ways that a person could become a slave in Ancient Africa. Many slaves were captives of war. These slaves were often sold to faraway lands in order to keep them from escaping back home. Sometimes people became slaves for a period of time in order to pay off debts or they were forced into slavery for committing a crime. Children born to slaves also became slaves.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Africa is home to some of the world's great civilizations including <a href="https://www.ducksters.com/history/ancient_egypt.php">Ancient Egypt</a> which ruled for over 3000 years and built the Great Pyramids. Other civilizations include the <a href="https://www.ducksters.com/history/africa/empire_of_ancient_mali.php">Mali Empire</a>, the <a href="https://www.ducksters.com/history/africa/songhai_empire.php">Songhai Empire</a>, and the <a href="https://www.ducksters.com/history/africa/empire_of_ancient_ghana.php">Kingdom of Ghana</a>. Africa is also home to some of the oldest discoveries of human tools and possibly the oldest people group in the world in the San people of Southern Africa. Today, some of the world's fastest growing economies (2019 GDP) come from Africa with the two largest economies in Africa being Nigeria and South Africa.</div>]]></description>

After the fall of the Akkadian Empire, the city was taken over and settled by the Amorites. The city began its rise to power in 1792 BC when King Hammurabi took the throne. He was a powerful and capable leader who wanted to rule more than just the city of Babylon.</div>]]></description>

As they learned how to irrigate land and grow crops on large farms, the towns grew bigger. Eventually these towns became large cities. Outside the inner chambers would be other buildings including large halls filled with columns and open courts. The entrance to the temple often had tall pylons that served as guardians to the temples.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Egyptians made linen from the fibers of the flax plant. Workers would spin the fibers into thread that would then be woven into linen fabric using looms. It was a long and laborious process.</div>]]></description>
