My most meaningful window moment was in chapter 2 (Pages 22 - 25). The chapter opens to give you details over Trevor's birth (Noah 22). However contrary to how It may seem, Trevor starts to reveal his mothers life and how she learned to survive in a country of apartheid, providing a descriptive and structured perspective on the lives of most. (Noah 23-25)

My most meaningful mirror moment lie in chapter 11 (Pages 137 - 139). Trevor recalls his time in grade school (Sandringham Highschool). Trevor goes on to explain that when everyone was in the playground, many of those of different races, Black, Colored, White, Asian, Indian, would congregate in their own areas and groups (Noah 138). This was a great mirror moment as it showed how today in schools, there are still traces of separation of people due to how to look and how they stereotype others (into different groups).

She would take him to many churches (Noah, 6), buy him books, and even write letters back and forth, sometimes disciplining him in these writings! (Noah, 82). My mom did all of these things in my life as well.

Window: The most significant window moment was reading about when Trevor's family had no money and was struggling to eat most nights. They sometimes had to resort to meat scraps meant for dogs, and actual dog bones (Noah, 72). This was something I've never experienced before in my life.

In this chapter, Trevor reunited with his dad after not being able to see or talk to him for a very long time. This was a window to me because I didn't know what it was like to be separated from someone you love for so long, and Noah's description of his meeting with his dad helped me realize this. (Noah 110)
My most powerful mirror moment occurred earlier in the book, when Trevor talked about the opportunities his mom gave him by refusing to conform to what was expected of her. I was reminded of the opportunities my parents have given me, and how thankful I am for what they have done for me. (Noah 73)

He escaped but his friend didn't, and he was confronted, but not recognized as the white boy in the video tape footage. This is a significant window moment because it shows how many people are unable to see past race, its not Trevor Noah, its a white person. And then he got away scot free.

I think my biggest mirror moment was on pages 67 and 68 where Noah was recalling his relationship with books as a child. I'm reading about this person who pretty much couldn't be more different from me, and then he starts talking about books. He talked about how he took care of them, never dog-earing the pages. He talked about his favorite genres and authors. There's this person on the opposite side of the world who looks nothing like me, who grew up nothing like me, who I share almost nothing in common with. But he loves Roald Dahl. He loves to get lost in what is impossible. He wanted to read Chronicles of Narnia. I love those. I love the strange things those brilliant people came up with. Who woulda thought.

There are a number of times over the course of Trevor Noah's story where he felt a level of fear or horror I have been blessed enough to never have experienced. The most significant one was probably pages 273 and 274 where Andrew calls to tell him his mother had been shot. I can't even begin to imagine that pain, that terror. I've never lost someone close to me like that, I pray I never have to. Even though he didn't actually end up loosing her, he thought he had. And then he didn't know what was going to happen and through all of that he said he "broke in two." I can't even begin to imagine.

I am a very busy person and I have a lot of experience with going from place to place, practice to practice, and doing homework late at night. I can relate to Trevor's exhaustion. A window moment is how Trevor is only close with his mother. He expresses this relation after his mom had been shot by saying, "she was my mom. She was my teammate. It had always been me and her together, me and her against the world" (Noah 274). This is a window moment for me because unlike Trevor, I am very close with both of my parents and I also am close with my siblings. Trevor doesn't have siblings close to his age, and he is really only close with his mother.

I had a window moment on page 197 when he is talking about how in Aferica they barley know anything about WWII and I realized how important it is to have an education by seeing how hard life was for them since they had little to no education.

The most significant mirror moment for me was when his mom is upset with him after he gets out of jail and is bragging about it. His mom explains to him (In a not very calm manner) that she has provided for him, and that everything she does is for him. When she is punishing him she says she is trying to save him, while when the world punishes him it's to 🤬 him. I think I take for granted the things my parents do for and to me. They have helped me and shaped me into my person. It's like I forget 🤬 much they have provided for me and how much they have gone through for me. That just really stuck out to me because it's a revelation I have experienced, but continue to forget.

I just think it's so interesting how it really is.
(I don't have my book right now so there aren't any page numbers)

Mirror: When Trevor gets home from jail and his mom is disappointed in him. This happens on page 242 and reflects how i've felt towards some of my grades recently. Since i haven't been working to my full potential, similar to how Trevor hadn't been showing his full potential, i would have better grades.
Window: I noticed how horrible Trevor's step dad was throughout the book. It amazed me how much he did and got away with it all. This opened my eyes to how different cultures treat justice in different ways than we do here in the US.

It would not seem like a bad decision to me.

Window: My window moment was when Trevor started “...selling pirated CDs on the corner”(Noah 209).

Mirror: My mirror moment is Trevor's relationship with his mother. Trevor ad his mom experience a lot together. Trevor explains him and his mom's relationship as "bitter rivals, but they respect the 🤬 out of each other, and somehow they grow to like each other" (Noah 80). This is fairly similar to my mom and I. I love her to death, and I respect her like crazy, but we are so alike that we can really get on each other's nerves. I thought that the banter and the crazy deep love Trevor shares with his mom was something I could relate to.
Window: To be very blunt, the book is packed with window examples, for Trevor's environments and situations are so different to those we face everyday. However, the window moment I chose was Abel as a whole. I, thankfully, have never had to experience any abuse from any figure in my life, but Trevor talks about it in the book almost like it's second nature to him. (Noah 266).

The most meaningful mirror moment for me was when Trevor started pirating games, music and videos. He set up a monopoly and was a capitalist with his ingenious idea. He expanded his empire when he became the “middle man” (Noah 186) of Bolo’s operation of pirating games. He took the opportunity and turned it into something great. I relate to this because all throughout middle school, I would buy, then re-sell Krispy Kream donuts for double the price to desperate kids. After a while I got in trouble for it. Then I started selling $20 watches from Walmart for WAY more than double and advertise them as high quality. After I capitalized off of that, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to get some experience from a Blue Collar job, which leads me to where I am now.

Window:
Trevor has a complicated relationship with his father, which I cannot relate to at all. He only got to see his father once a week and even that was pushing it sometimes. He wasn’t contempt with his life and the schedule he had to see his father until Trevor said, “When I was thirteen, my father moved to Cape Town and we lost touch.” (Noah 103). This was hard on Tevor because he didn’t talk to his father after that. I can’t relate to this because I never had anything close to this happen to me. Compared to Trevor, I’ve had it easy and that makes me grateful for what I have.

Mirror: I can related to Trevor Noah's dog FuFi with my dog Pollo. My dog wasn't deaf but I did loose him similar to Trevor did with FuFi (pg 99). He was gone for almost 24 hours. While looking for him we found a neighbor that spoted him and decided to take him into her house and called the pound. But we arrive sooner than the pound did and the lady didn't want to give up Pollo unless the pound was there. This didn't work because like FuFi Pollo when into the neighbor's house but unlike FuFi he immediately ditched the neighbor for us.

Window: My window moment with Trevor Noah was during the chameleon chapter when Trevor could switch between being black and white in depending on the situation provided (54 pg). Being seen as one race and not living in South Africa meant that I had no relation to this. Not only does he switch from white to black or vise versa, but he can speak 5 different laguages and talk slang or proper. That way he could talk to almost any one (55pg).
