Public policies can have a great effect on economic inequality in the United States. Policies like minimum wage laws, and progressive taxation help redistribute wealth and provide help for low income individuals. Policies like globalization, and shifting tax policies can further economic inequality by widening the gap between the rich and the poor. Minimum wage laws ensure that all working individuals are paid at least a specific amount which is currently $15.50 an hour in New York. Another good policy which decreases economic inequality is education programs which provide education to low income children giving them more chances and a better future. Economic inequality is such a large and important part of our country and it is necessary that it is addressed and attempted to be taken care of.

Public policies have a major impact on economic inequality in the United States. Policies such as tax reforms and minimun wage laws play a key role in shaping how income and wealth are distributed across different social and economic groups. For example, when the government increases minimum wage, it helps low income workers earn more money which can reduce the income gap between the weathly and the working class. When it comes to tax reforms, they influence the distribution of wealth and income when they make the wealthy pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes. This tax money can help to reduce inequality by funding education, healthcare, and food assistance. However, if these tax policies favor the rich, such as policies that give tax cuts to the wealthy and large corporations, the income gap will widen, taking us farther away from equality.

Public policies affect the United States through several different matters. One including the economy, public policies such as tax policies, social welfare programs, or minimum wage laws. This can positively affect the United States, but also can be seen as unequal. Some of these policies can be seen as unfair as these are only offered to certain people, creating seperation between the population. For example by raising minimum wages, it will increase income for low-wage workers, but also decrease income for the employers. But, by continuing to use public policies such as minimum wage or tax cuts it lessens the stress of low-wage workers while also distributing the wealth throughout the United States.

Public policies affect issues such as economic inequality by presenting ideas that can potentially improve economics in certain areas. This can be lowering the prices for public transportation in a poor neighborhood, or holding fundraisers and donation events so help those struggling financially. Getting a tourist attraction or increase trading with another area can also bring in profit and help the economy. Public policies like tax reforms, or minimum wage laws can also influence the distribution of wealth. Minimum wage laws for instance can help low wage workers earn a fair wage. This also makes it do the owners of the companies cannot make as much thus reducing the gap between rich and poor. Tax reforms can also help this. By taxing people based on their income, the amount of kids they have and where they live can make it so each person it taxed correctly, not too much but also not to little. Taxing solely on income alone is not enough to judge what people should pay, rather taxes should look at what people can pay. This will make it so each person can pay their taxes accordingly. Tax reforms can also lower taxes in certain areas allowing people to save more money. In the long run this could potentially help the economy. Taxes in turn fund public education, health care, law enforcement, and food stamps. Taxing people based on what they can give will lower taxes on the poor and raise them on the rich. This will shorten the gap between rich and poor

Politicians and lawmakers create public policy to address many issues, one of those being economic inequality among citizens. Some of the most notable policies that address economic inequality are those that reform the taxing system. Instead of a uniform tax on everyone, we have tax cuts for certain individuals and circumstances, as well as a varying income tax based on annual income. Minimum wage policies also help address economic inequality by establishing a base wage for any working individual. This is meant to ensure that if you are working, you will always get paid fairly and sensibly. Though these policies are not perfect, and most minimum wages are especially outdated when considering the growing cost of living, they save many people from severe poverty. Besides wealth inequality, public policy is also meant to address other topics such as discrimination, healthcare, education, criminal justice, and more. Through a long process and a desire to help their communities, policymakers create policies that will promote the general welfare and improve society as a whole. The ability for lawmakers to make policies like this and address issues in small and local ways helps to strengthen our government and nation.

Public policies play a major role in shaping economic inequality in the U.S. because they decide how money and opportunities are distributed. Things like tax reforms and minimum wage laws can either help level the playing field or make the gap between the rich and poor even wider. For example, when tax cuts mostly go to the wealthy, it leaves everyone else with less support, but if taxes are more balanced and higher earners pay more, it can help fund programs that support lower-income communities. Minimum wage laws are super important too—when wages go up, it gives people a better chance at actually affording basic needs, especially for groups like women, young people, and people of color who are more likely to be in lower-paying jobs. But if policies don’t keep up with rising costs, people fall behind fast. At the end of the day, these laws impact real lives, and whether someone can get by or get ahead often depends on the decisions being made in government.

Public Policies play a major role in shaping economic inequality in the United States by influencing how wealth and income are distributed across different demographics. For instance, tax reforms that increase taxes on the wealthy provide credits or deductions for lower income families that can help reduce the income gap. This raise of the minimum wage can improve the standard of living for low-wage workers, helping to lift people out of poverty. Policies that favor tax cuts for the wealthy inequality by concentration wealth among the top earners. Policy decisions directly impact economic opportunities and the outcomes for different groups of societies. - Billie Leet
