Trust vs mistrust starts from birth to around 18 months. In this stage the child is figuring out the world and trying to know who to trust and who not to. Babies will figure this out by seeing who meets their needs and protects them. When I was a baby, my mom would always try to meet my needs. She would feed me when I cried and also made me feel safe around her. On the other hand my dad never really tried to meet my needs. He would just let me cry until I stopped. I quickly figured out that I could trust my mom and she would always be there to help me.

This second stage begins from around 18 months to 3 years. In this stage the child tries to develop self-control. They try to see if they can do things independently. When I was 2 years old I started to pick out my own clothes and dress myself. This allowed me to have some independence and confidence in myself. I also started to see if I could do things by myself or if I was relient on my parents or other people. I tried things like cleaning up after myself and getting water.

Initiative vs Guilt

Initiative vs guilt starts at age 3 and goes on until age 5. This stage is all about taking the initiative. When they fail it leads them to feel guilt. Children try to achieve goals and when if they fail they might feel ashamed and disappointed. As a 4-year-old I enjoyed trying new sports. I first tried gymnastics and loved it. I also really enjoyed ballet. That shows initiative. Also as a 4-year-old, I would forget to pick up my stuff after I was done using it. That would make my mom angry and disappointed especially after she told me multiple times to do it. I felt guilty and ashamed when I didn’t complete what I was told to do.

Industry vs inferiority is the fourth stage. This stage goes through ages 5 and 12 years old. In this stage your child goes into society past their family. Your child needs encouragement by parents and teachers. This allows them to have some belief in their abilities. If the child doesn't recieve encouragement they will doubt their own ability to be successful. As an 8-year-old I struggled with social studies. I would ask my mom and teacher for a little extra help. Since they helped me and were very encouraging, they allowed me to not only get good grades but also help me believe I can do things when I really try.

This stage begins at age 12 and goes through age 18. This stage is all about your child figuring out who they are. They might go through a rebellious stage just to try to fit in. When I was 13 I tried my best to fit in with the popular kids. I always lied to myself and didn’t know who I was. After a while I learned that I shouldn’t have to change to fit in. I should be accepted for who I am.

Intimacy vs isolation is the sixth stage. This stage occurs through the ages of 19 and 40. This stage centers on you forming intimate, loving relationships with other people. People might ask themselves if they will ever be loved or will always be alone. Some people perfer isolation and just want to be alone. I think that as I get older I will isolate myself more than what I should. I belive that because of past experiences and being very conservative. I will try to be more open about how I feel but as of right now I keep many things to myself. I’m also not used to commitment with another person. I fear that I won’t be loved by someone else.

This stage occurs during through the ages 40 and 65. In this stage you think to yourself on how you can make a change in the world or contribute in helping with something. Stagnation is the feeling of not being able to contribute on helping someone or something in need. I believe that I will show generativity. I think that because right now I am a very caring and helpful person. I like to help people with whatever possible. I am also really good at taking care of kids.

This is the last and final stage. Integrity vs despair begins at around age 65 and ends at death. In this stage you reflect on your life. People who are proud on what they have done feel pride and satisfaction with themselves. Some people might feel regret because they didn't acomplish everything they wanted. I feel like when get to this stage I will have integrity. I usually look back and don’t have any egrets. Everything happens for a reason and I believe you should learn from them to become a better person. I usually try new things even if I’m scared. I rather not pass on an opportunity that might only happen once.
