In my free time, I love travelling, spending time with my family and friends, trying new restaurants, staying active, and playing violin in a chamber orchestra. I’d love to chat with you about your favourite travel destinations, recipes, and music.

I am excited to be taking this class. I was reluctant to take online courses because I prefer the social nature of on campus classes, but now I have no choice. I am taking two courses this summer, this and inclusive and special education. 

I am single with no children by design. I currently don’t have any pets but am up for any pet/house sitting anyone may need. I am currently staying with my mother in Carelton Place ON, because of the pandemic. My mom has a cat and my housemate in Ottawa has two cats, a dog and a parrot. I am looking forward to being able to move more freely and spend time with people other than my mom again. 

I enjoy traveling, watching tv and movies, reading and camping. The photos below include pictures of insects I have taken on three continents, Africa, Asia and North America. 

My name is Jingsha Yang, you can call me Julia as well. I was born and raised in Sichuan, China, which is famous for spicy food.Yes, I am a spicy food lover. Last year I relocated to Ottawa because of my family, I was super excited to start my new life here. As I like to know the local culture and customs in a new country, I am willing to learn more about Ottawa and Canada.

I love food, movies, swimming and skiing. I love watching Friends whenever and wherever I am. I would love to hear which character do you like if you like to share with me.

On my summers off during my undergrad, I worked at a Science and Engineering Summer Camp, Engineering Science Quest, located at the University of Waterloo. I began as a University Leader, creating themed summer camps for children in grades 1 and 2. In my final year, I discovered my passion for inclusion and the field of disability studies, as I was the Program Support Team Leader. In this role, I was the point resource for camper accommodations. I love Camp, and I believe it can create the best environment for children to grow, build confidence, and learn!

 

In my free time, I enjoy being around friends and family, as well as hosting any type of party/get-together. Even in quarantine, I ensure a zoom party with friends at least once a week. I also enjoy knitting, hiking, talking about cats and dogs, and drinking wine with my mom (Patty). I am very excited about this course as I have taken a few women studies courses in my undergrad and eager to dive into the applications of feminist theories in education.

My name is Ellen, and I am an Elementary school teacher in Quebec. I graduated from the Bachelor of Education program at McGill university in 2015 and have been teaching for the past 5 years. I have held many different educational roles during this time, while I earn experience and work towards a permanent position. I have worked as an English Second Language teacher (to international students and Quebec Francophone students), a grade 1 homeroom teacher, and a resource teacher. I am currently in my second semester of the online M.Ed program (Studies in teaching and learning). Though I was born and raised in the South Shore area of Montreal, I recently relocated to Gatineau, Quebec. While I have enjoyed exploring my new area, this has been put on hold due to everything that is going on with the Coronavirus. 

In my free time I enjoy reading, baking, and all things Disney. I also enjoy learning about different cultures and beliefs.

My name is Shannon and I am a middle school teacher finishing up my 16^th year teaching – eek! I am currently teaching online from Nova Scotia although my school is in Bermuda. I love traveling and I have lived in Indonesia, Serbia, South Africa, and China.

I’m originally from Ottawa and still have family/friends there so I return often. I graduated with my undergrad from UofO and received my B.Ed. from Nipissing University. Camping, hiking, canoeing and sitting around a campfire are some of the activities I miss from my time in North Bay completing my teaching degree. I miss skating on the canal, the Tulip Festival, and all my old haunts in Ottawa. Hopefully I will be able to visit this summer.

On the weekend, I enjoy curling up with my pups, a good book and hot cup of coffee. I also enjoy sci-fi and I am currently catching up on Star Trek Next Generation in preparation to watch the new(ish) Picard series.

I’m excited to take this course as I’ve never taken any feminist classes before!
