Belgium, or officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a Western European country. Belgium has a population of about 11.5 million. Capital and largest city Brussels; other major cities are Antwerp, Ghent, Charleroi and Liège.

Belgium is governed by the federal constitutional monarchical parliamentary system. Its institutional organization is complex and structured on both regional and linguistic foundations. The country is basically divided into three regions, the Flemish Region, the Wallonia Region and the Capital Brussels Region.

Belgium is home to two main language groups or communities: the Dutch-speaking Flemish Community, which accounts for about 60 percent of the population, and the French-speaking Community, which accounts for about 40 percent of all Belgians. A small German-speaking Community in the Eastern Cantons is around 1 percent. The Brussels-Capital Region is officially bilingual (French and Dutch), but French is the dominant language.

Located in the northern part of Belgium, the Flanders Region lies between the Netherlands and France and is the northern part of Belgium where Dutch is spoken. Belgium has 3 official languages, Dutch, German and French. Ostend, Brugge, Antwerp, Ghent, Mechelen, Hasselt, Leper, Leuven, Oudenaarde and Brussels are cities located in the Flanders region. In addition, Brussels, the capital of Belgium and Flanders, is also the headquarters of the European Union, many international organizations, and the multinational institutions of Europe. Since the Flanders region is in the heart of Western Europe, it is 300km from many European cities such as London, Paris, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Cologne and Luxembourg, so traveling to many countries is also easy.
