         <description><![CDATA[<div>4th Grade ELA<br>I found some of the strategies for educators to be helpful to explicitly teach empathy and ways to stand up for themselves and others, especially when they receive confusing messages about themselves. It reminds me of Second Step and can be easily integrated into that curriculum.</div><ul><li>Cultivate children’s empathy and ways to deal with the hurt of stereotyping. <strong>Read books that depict children experiencing unfair treatment based on their racial identity.</strong></li><li>Tell persona doll stories about a discriminatory incident between dolls, engaging children’s empathy and problem-solving skills.</li><li><strong>Intentionally plan activities to counter potential over generalizations or existing stereotypes</strong> in the children’s general environment.</li></ul><div>I bolded the two points that I think are important to model and plan lessons for in my own classroom.</div>]]></description>

Once Black Loves Matter society will change as a whole.  I used this as dialogue for why we teach Black History.  A classroom discussion around systemic racism was brought up and the focus is that since history has historically been from a white perspective, it is necessary to hear from the black perspective.  So often those voices have been neglected and silenced.</div>]]></description>

It is important that I do more to fight against and be better at actively trying to dismantle or eliminate racism in future generations.  As teachers we have a malleable and receptive audience.  I need to be assertive enough to promote change or at least plant seeds that may sprout future change, but not so much so that I lose my platform of influence.</div>]]></description>
