When we begin a writing unit, for example, my team will choose some "needs" based on G3 and professional knowledge, and then leave some whole group lessons open for pop-up needs in class. I teach Grade 4 but in my school Grade 3 does almost all of their drafting and publishing using various TC paper choices but the Grade 5 writing classes are using Chrombooks to draft and publish work. In vertical alignment meetings we have discussed starting on Chrombooks mid-year but we also know that TC has some sound and fundamental reasons for drafting on paper using pens. All reading and writing should come through the students play.
