There have been many fairy tales that have been told yet forgotten about throughout time, however some are able to stand the test of time and remain relevant in our modern world. The tale of “Sleeping Beauty” still stays a beloved classic in our hearts to this day. While we can still enjoy this amusing story, it is important to look at it with a critical lens in order to point out and acknowledge the problematic setup of this classic fairy tale as it is a story built on misogynistic principles. However, the true question is do these principles withstand all adaptions? Is “Sleeping Beauty” inherently a misogynistic text, or can it be altered over time to a feminist story? This answer may be found by examining some of the most popular adaptions of Charles Perrault's "The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood," which are both Disney films "Sleeping Beauty" and "Maleficent."
