Seeking knowledge should start with a sincere intention for the sake of Allah, as a pure intention turns learning into an act of worship. Respecting teachers is important, which means listening carefully, not interrupting, and following their instructions politely. Discipline is also necessary, including being on time for classes, staying committed to studying, and avoiding procrastination.

Students are encouraged to make dua for beneficial knowledge, asking Allah for wisdom, good sustenance, and deeds that are accepted. By practicing these good manners in learning, students can gain both knowledge and blessings in their journey.

Wisdom from Adab in Learning

True knowledge is not just about gathering information; it is about seeking it with sincerity and humility. When a person learns for the sake of Allah, their efforts become an act of worship, leading to both intellectual and spiritual growth. Respect for teachers and discipline in studying are not just good habits but reflections of good character. A disciplined student develops patience, responsibility, and a love for lifelong learning. Al-Quran as the Book of Guidance

The Qur’an is Allah’s final revelation to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) over 23 years, guiding all areas of life.

Importance: It helps strengthen our connection with Allah and brings peace. The Qur'an also provides intercession and healing.

Benefits: It increases Taqwa, strengthens faith, and rewards are given for every letter recited.

Pillars of Islam

The five pillars of Islam are the foundation of a Muslim’s life. The first is Shahadah, which means declaring that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger. The second is Salah, the five daily prayers that keep a believer connected to Allah. The third is Zakah, giving a portion of wealth to those in need to purify wealth and help the community. The fourth is Sawm, fasting during Ramadan, which teaches self-discipline and empathy for the less fortunate. The fifth is Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, which is required once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able.

Shahadah – The Foundation of Faith

Shahadah is the declaration that “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.” This statement is not just about words but about belief and commitment. It means putting trust in Allah alone and following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in everyday life. True faith is not just spoken but reflected in actions, attitudes, and decisions.

Hikmah: Shahadah teaches sincerity and purpose. It reminds people that life is temporary and that true success comes from worshiping Allah and living righteously. It unites all Muslims under one belief, creating a strong sense of brotherhood and equality.

Salah – A Lifeline to Allah

Salah, or daily prayer, is performed five times a day at different times: Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night). Prayer brings a person closer to Allah, providing moments of peace and reflection throughout the day. It is a time to ask for guidance, seek forgiveness, and express gratitude. No matter what happens in life, Salah serves as a reminder that Allah is always present.

Hikmah: Salah teaches discipline, patience, and humility. It helps control negative emotions, bringing peace to the heart. It also strengthens self-awareness and mindfulness, encouraging people to lead a more purposeful and balanced life.

Zakah – Purifying Wealth and Helping Others

Zakah is giving a portion of wealth (2.5% of savings) to those in need. It is not just charity; it is a duty that ensures wealth is shared fairly and does not become a source of selfishness. Helping others creates a more just society, where no one is left struggling while others accumulate excessive wealth. Zakah purifies the heart from greed and reminds people that everything they own is ultimately a trust from Allah.

Hikmah: Zakah cultivates generosity and social responsibility. It reduces the gap between the rich and the poor, ensuring that everyone has basic needs met. Giving selflessly brings barakah (blessings) and increases gratitude for what one has.

Sawm – Fasting for Self-Discipline and Empathy

Sawm, or fasting, is observed during Ramadan, where Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset. Fasting is not just about staying hungry; it is about self-control, patience, and spiritual purification. It helps people understand the struggles of those who experience hunger daily and encourages gratitude for life’s blessings.

Hikmah: Fasting develops inner strength, willpower, and empathy. It teaches that true fulfillment does not come from material things but from faith and contentment. It also helps cleanse the body and mind, encouraging a healthier and more mindful lifestyle.

Hajj – A Journey of Faith and Unity

Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca, required once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able. Millions of Muslims from different backgrounds come together, dressed in simple white garments, standing as equals before Allah. It is a journey of humility, sacrifice, and devotion, where people leave behind worldly concerns and focus entirely on worship.

Hikmah: Hajj reminds people that all are equal before Allah, regardless of status or wealth. It strengthens patience and faith, as the pilgrimage requires endurance and perseverance. The experience leaves a lasting impact, inspiring a renewed commitment to righteousness and humility.

Hadith Jibril

Hadith Jibril is one of the most important hadiths because it summarizes the core aspects of Islam. Angel Jibril came in human form to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and asked him about Islam, Iman, Ihsan, and the signs of the Last Day. The Prophet explained each concept in detail. After Jibril left, the Prophet revealed that it was actually Angel Jibril who had come to teach the companions about their religion. This hadith highlights the importance of knowledge and understanding in practicing faith.

Islam, Iman, and Ihsan

Islam refers to the outward actions that a Muslim performs, such as prayer, fasting, giving charity, and performing Hajj. It is like the trunk and branches of a tree, visible and structured. Iman is about belief in the heart, including faith in Allah, angels, holy books, prophets, the Day of Judgment, and divine destiny. It is like the roots of a tree, hidden but essential for survival. Ihsan means striving for excellence by worshiping Allah as if one sees Him or knowing that He always sees us. It is like the fruit of a tree, representing the best outcome of faith and actions.

Signs of the Last Day

The signs of the Last Day are divided into minor and major signs. Minor signs include the spread of dishonesty, immorality, and disobedience to parents. People will neglect their prayers and follow their desires. Time will pass quickly, and natural disasters will increase. People will also compete in constructing tall buildings, and knowledge will decrease while ignorance spreads. Major signs include the appearance of Al-Mahdi, a just leader who will unite the Muslims, and Dajjal (the Antichrist), a deceiver who will mislead people with false miracles. Another major sign is the rising of the sun from the west, after which repentance will no longer be accepted. Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) will return to defeat Dajjal and bring justice.

Belief in Allah

Belief in Allah’s oneness is essential. He is the only one worthy of worship, and everything in the world is under His control. Allah’s will governs everything, and nothing happens without His permission. Trusting in Allah’s plan brings peace because we know that everything, whether good or bad, happens for a reason. It reminds us that life has a purpose and that hardships come with hidden blessings.

Dua (prayer) is an important way of connecting with Allah. Those who neglect it are missing an essential part of faith. True faith brings patience, thankfulness, and acceptance of whatever comes our way. Knowing that Allah is always listening helps believers stay hopeful and strong in difficult times.

Everything we do is written in the Book of Deeds, and we will be accountable for it. This reminds us to be mindful of our actions and strive to do good. Asking for forgiveness (Istighfar) helps us receive more blessings and keeps our hearts pure. A strong connection with Allah guides us to lead a good life, both here and in the next world.

Belief in Angels (Malaikah)

Angels are unseen beings created by Allah to carry out His commands. They have important roles, such as delivering messages, recording our deeds, and carrying out divine decisions. Every action, good or bad, is recorded by the angels and will be presented to us on the Day of Judgment. Knowing that everything is being recorded encourages us to be more mindful of our choices.

In the Hereafter, angels will question us in the grave, oversee our rewards and punishments, and make sure Allah’s justice is carried out. Even though we cannot see them, they are a crucial part of our belief, reminding us that everything we do is watched by Allah. This awareness helps us strive to live righteously and avoid wrongdoing.

Belief in the Divine Scriptures (Kitab)

Allah has sent scriptures to guide us, starting with the Quran, which is the final and most complete guidance. Other scriptures like the Tawrat (Torah), Zabur (Psalms), and Injil (Gospel) were sent to previous prophets. These scriptures teach us right from wrong and how to live good lives. Holding onto the Quran ensures that we stay on the right path, leading to success in both this world and the Hereafter.

The lives of past prophets, like Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, and Adam, show us the struggles they faced while spreading Allah’s message. Their patience and faith teach us to stay strong even when things are tough. For example, Prophet Nuh (Noah) preached to his people for 950 years, despite being rejected. His story reminds us that perseverance and faith always lead to success.

The Quran reminds us of the Hereafter and encourages us to seek Allah’s mercy and follow His commands. Seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) brings us closer to Allah’s blessings. By remembering Allah and following His guidance, we can find peace, purpose, and success in both this

life and the next.

Belief in Rasul

Prophets were sent by Allah to guide people, and each faced different challenges. Nabi Ibrahim A.S went through many tests and succeeded in all of them. Nabi Musa A.S struggled with the rejection of his people. Nabi Adam A.S was deceived by Satan and faced the consequences. Nabi Nuh A.S spent 950 years calling his people to the truth, but they refused to listen, even covering their ears and faces to avoid hearing him. Despite this, he remained patient and always sought Allah’s forgiveness. These stories teach that believers will face hardships, but they should stay firm in their faith, be patient, and always turn back to Allah.

Belief in Qiyamah (Hereafter)

Believing in the afterlife helps people stay focused on what truly matters. When someone understands that this world is temporary, they will not be too attached to wealth or status. Giving charity does not reduce wealth but brings blessings instead. Every action should be done sincerely because the real reward is in the next life. Everything belongs to Allah and He gives and takes as He wills. A strong faith helps a person stay grateful in good times, patient in hard times, and accepting of whatever happens. Remembering death encourages people to live righteously and prepare for a good ending (husnul khatimah). Everyone has their own path in life, and the best way forward is to follow what Allah has commanded.

Belief in Qada’ and Qadar (Predestination)

Everything happens according to Allah’s plan, and nothing is outside His knowledge. Every event, big or small, is already written. When Allah wills something, it happens instantly. The destruction of past nations is a reminder that people should take lessons and not repeat their mistakes. Those who trust in Allah’s plan and follow His guidance will be rewarded with paradise. True faith means accepting that everything is in Allah’s hands. People should not become arrogant and think they control everything. Instead, they should trust Allah, be patient, and always seek His help because He knows what is best.

Signs of Qiyamah

The signs of Qiyamah are divided into three categories: minor signs, major signs, and final signs. Minor signs include the coming of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the spread of disobedience, and people competing to build tall buildings. Some minor signs have already happened, while others are yet to occur, such as the transformation of Arabia into a green land and the discovery of a mountain of gold in the Euphrates River. Major signs include the appearance of Dajjal, the return of Prophet Isa (AS), the arrival of Imam Mahdi, and the emergence of Ya'juj and Ma'juj. The final signs are major disasters, including the sun rising from the west, the appearance of the Beast (Dabbatul Ardh), and thick smoke (Dukhan), all of which signal the nearness of the Last Day.

These signs remind us that life is temporary and that everything is moving toward an ultimate end. The minor signs show that many prophecies have already come true, strengthening our faith and encouraging us to prepare for the Hereafter by increasing our good deeds. The major signs, like the coming of Dajjal, Prophet Isa’s return, and the emergence of Ya'juj and Ma'juj, warn us of great trials. They teach us that true faith will be tested and that only those with strong Iman will remain firm. Knowing this encourages us to stay connected to Allah and seek His protection.

Dajjal (The False Messiah)

Dajjal will be a great deceiver who misleads people by performing miracles and claiming to be divine. He will travel across the world for forty days, spreading corruption and testing people's faith. His influence will be strong, but Makkah and Madinah will be protected by angels, preventing him from entering. Those with weak faith will fall into his trap, while true believers will recognize him as a liar.

Dajjal’s deception teaches us that not everything that looks powerful or miraculous is true. In times of confusion, only strong faith and knowledge of Islam can protect us. His inability to enter Makkah and Madinah reminds us that places of righteousness and sincere worship are always under Allah’s protection.

The Return of Prophet Isa (AS)

Prophet Isa (AS) will descend in Damascus at a crucial time when Dajjal is spreading destruction. He will join Imam Mahdi in leading the Muslims and will personally defeat Dajjal. After this victory, he will establish justice, rule with fairness, and guide people back to the true teachings of Islam.

His return symbolizes hope and justice. It teaches us that truth will always prevail, no matter how much falsehood spreads. His victory over Dajjal shows that divine guidance will always overcome deception, reinforcing the importance of following the true teachings of Islam.

Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog)

Ya'juj and Ma'juj are wild and destructive tribes that will break free from their barrier and cause chaos everywhere they go. They will consume resources and leave nothing behind. Their power will seem unstoppable, but eventually, Allah will send a deadly disease that will wipe them out. Their massive numbers will leave behind countless corpses, causing the earth to be filled with a foul smell.

The story of Ya'juj and Ma'juj teaches us that human power and resources are nothing without Allah’s control. Despite their strength and destruction, Allah alone will bring their end. This reminds us to trust in Allah’s wisdom and justice, even when facing overwhelming difficulties.

The Emergence of Imam Mahdi

Imam Mahdi will appear during a time of widespread injustice. He will be a descendant of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and will bring peace and fairness to the world. His rule will last for seven years, during which he will lead the Muslims and prepare them for the return of Prophet Isa (AS).

His leadership teaches us that no matter how dark times become, Allah will always send guidance to those who seek it. His arrival shows that justice will return, and good will always have a place, even when corruption spreads.

Final Catastrophic Signs

As the world reaches its final moments, a thick smoke (Dukhan) will spread, affecting both believers and disbelievers. Then, Dabbatul Ardh, a mysterious beast, will emerge and mark people based on their faith. A major sign will be the sun rising from the west, after which no repentance will be accepted. Finally, a massive fire will appear, forcing people to gather in one place before the Last Day arrives.

These final events teach us that repentance has a time limit. We should not delay seeking forgiveness and doing good because a time will come when it will no longer be accepted.

The Last Days of the Earth

Near the end, a soft wind will take the souls of all believers, leaving only the worst people on earth. These remaining individuals will be corrupt and ignorant, and they will live in complete darkness until the final trumpet is blown, bringing an end to the world.

The soft wind that takes the souls of believers teaches us that Allah protects the righteous from the worst trials. The final destruction of the world is a reminder that everything we see today is temporary. This should encourage us to focus on what truly matters, which is preparing for the Hereafter through fai

th, good deeds, and sincere repentance.

Adab Towards Parents

Respecting and honoring parents is an important aspect of good manners in Islam. From the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his father, we learn that even when guiding parents toward the truth, one must remain gentle and respectful. Ibrahim (AS) addressed his father with love and avoided any harsh or offensive words, even though his father rejected his message. He patiently explained his reasoning and invited him to the right path without arrogance. Despite facing rejection and threats, he remained calm, prayed for his father, and left matters in Allah’s hands. This teaches us that dealing with parents requires patience, humility, and kindness, regardless of differences in beliefs or opinions.

Adab Towards Neighbours and Society

Maintaining good relationships with neighbors and society is a key part of Islamic teachings. One should always be kind, helpful, and considerate towards those living nearby. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the importance of ensuring that neighbors feel safe and respected. This includes avoiding actions that may cause harm or inconvenience to others. Being honest in dealings, treating people fairly, and offering help when needed strengthen community ties and create a peaceful environment. A good Muslim does not just focus on personal well-being but also contributes positively to society by practicing justice and kindness.

Adab as a Student

Seeking knowledge is highly valued in Islam, and students should approach learning with sincerity and discipline. Respecting teachers and being attentive in lessons are fundamental aspects of adab. A student should maintain humility, understanding that knowledge is a lifelong journey. Applying what is learned in daily life is just as important as acquiring information. Patience and consistency in learning lead to both personal and spiritual growth. By showing good manners in the classroom and beyond, a student reflects the true essence of Islamic teachings.

Being part of Usrah has been an eye-opening experience for me. It has helped me understand Islam on a deeper level and made me more aware of how I practice my faith daily.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is the importance of staying connected to Allah. I used to see prayer as just something I had to do, but now I realize it’s a way to strengthen my relationship with Him. Learning about dua and trusting Allah’s plan has also helped me feel more at peace, knowing that everything happens for a reason.

Usrah also taught me a lot about good character and manners. Simple things like respecting others, speaking kindly, and having sincerity in what we do can make a big difference in our lives. Islam isn’t just about rituals; it’s about how we treat people and carry ourselves every day.

Another thing that really stuck with me is the reminder about the Hereafter. Learning about the signs of Qiyamah, the role of angels, and how every action is recorded made me more mindful of my choices. It reminded me that this life is temporary and that what really matters is how we prepare for the next.

Overall, Usrah has helped me become more aware of my faith and encouraged me to keep improving myself. It’s a journey, and I’m grateful for the lessons and reminders that push me to be a better Muslim.

• Story: In war, horses were trained to not drink water. They “fasted”.

• So, sawm symbolizes readiness and endurance like in battles.

- Gain Taqwa

• Not guaranteed unless done with the right intention and sincerity.

• It's a spiritual journey, not just physical.

- Strengthens Iman

• Ramadan is a spiritual booster.

• Shaytan is chained, Allah makes it easier to worship. Truly a blessing.

• Historically, it marked a shift of leadership from Bani Israil to the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Now we carry Islam forward!

MEANING

- Zakah literally means purification and growth.

- In Islamic law (Shari’ah), Zakah is an obligatory charity that every eligible Muslim must give annually

- Usually 2.5% of their savings and wealth.

- It is the third pillar of Islam.

IMPORTANCE

- Tazkiyah (Purification of the Soul)

• Main purpose of Zakah is to purify the giver's soul (nafs) and wealth (mal).

• Zakah helps clean the heart from selfishness, love of dunya, and pride.

• It trains the believer to give sincerely for Allah, not for showing off (riya’).

- Tawakkul (Trust in Allah)

• Giving Zakah is an act of letting go

HAJJ – A Journey of a Lifetime

MEANING & PURPOSE

- Hajj is the annual pilgrimage to the Kaabah in Makkah, done in Dhul Hijjah.

- It’s a physical and spiritual journey to cleanse the soul and fulfill one of Islam’s pillars.

RELATION BETWEEN HAJJ AND AL-TADHIYYAH (SACRIFICE)

WHAT IS AL-TADHIYYAH?

- Al-Tadhiyyah means sacrifice, specifically the act of slaughtering an animal (qurban) on Eid al-Adha.

- It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim (AS) who was willing to sacrifice his son Isma’il (AS) in obedience to Allah.

CONNECTION WITH HAJJ

- Sacrifice (Qurban) is part of the rituals of Hajj (during Yawm al-Nahr – the 10th of Dhul Hijjah).
