Amir's Call to Adventure is when Rahim Khan calls Amir asking him to go back to Pakistan. This is so that he can tell Amir of the truth with Hassan and what he must do.
""I have to go to Pakistan."
She stood up now. "Pakistan?"
"Rahim Khan is very sick." A fist clenched inside me with those words." (164).

This is Amir's Call to Adventure because this begins his journey of redeeming himself to Hassan, in saving his son.

Archetypes:
Herald- The Herald of this Call to Adventure is the truth behind Hassan, that he and Amir are brothers. As well as Hassan's death, leaving his child an orphan in need of saving.

The change in Amir’s character we see in the novel centers on his growth from a selfish child to a selfless adult. After allowing Hassan to be raped, Amir is not any happier. On the contrary, his guilt is relentless, and he recognizes his selfishness cost him his happiness rather than increasing it.
“A boy who won’t stand up for himself becomes a man who can’t stand up to anything." (20).
Baba says these words to Rahim Khan while he is talking about Amir at the end of Chapter 3, and the quotation reveals important traits in Amir. Baba sums up one of Amir’s major character flaws—his cowardice—and Baba shows how much value he places in standing up for what is right.

A mentor to Amir is Rahim Khan. Ever since he was young, he acted as a father figure to Amir, always inspiring him and nurturing his creativity.
"As always, it was Rahim Khan who rescued me. He held out his hand and

favored me with a smile that had nothing feigned about it. "May I have it, Amir Jan? I would very much like to read it." (25).

Rahim Khan always encouraged Amir in all his endeavors, including writing, which would later become his career. Rahim Khan always played an important role in Amir's development. Which makes him a good mentor to Amir. For these reasons, Rahim Khan is the archetype of the mentor.

He brings cash with him, not a lot,

but better than nothing at all." His shifty eyes fell on me, rolled away. "Usually

he'll take a girl. But not always."...
