I found a plethora of jobs working in Washington D.C. that would be incredibly (for lack of a better word) COOL. One job I have completely fallen in love with is the Department of Justice: POW/MIA Accounting Agency. As a historian, I would be hired to travel around the world to wherever the U.S. has had a conflict and use my historical knowledge to help locate and research where a soldier went missing and bring them home (aka back to the U.S.). There is a little more detail to what I would do, but that is the gist. I also would love to work in a museum, either as an archivist or a curator.

This is a video of the DPAA if anyone else in interested!

Why I like history!

I have found that history is one way to to connect with the people I could not meet and events I could not attend. For instance I found out that I have a famous pirate in my family, Captain Henry Every. In 1695, he famously stole two ships from the King of India's fleet which at the time were carrying what amounted to 89.6 million dollars in todays money.

I have gotten his pirate symbol tattooed on me!

I once had the honor of meeting with a WWII soldier who was held as a POW for 8 months. We often hear about WWII but it all comes into perspective when you meet a real war hero. For those who often say "history is boring and dull", I would say "sure it can be" but when you meet someone who participated in a war that CHANGED the world, its a life changing event that will alter your understanding of the past and why our world works the way it does today! Mr. Tirado is also why I find the DPAA so fascinating and was my inspiration for pursuing a history degree.

This is Hector Tirado he was a B-17 ball turret gunner. A German fighter plane shot down his aircraft on September 12, 1944.

During COVID there is not much to do, however, recently I have taken up finding local coffee shops that I can support during this crisis. If anyone is in the area or interested, I recently found Able coffee in Huntington Beach that is centered around hiring individuals with autism and disabilities, as well as purchasing their coffee beans from Cafe Femenio which is a program that combines specialty coffee with social change for women.
