This painting focuses on the Victorian era and its jewelry. The jewelry during this time period included a lot of gems, romantic shapes, and depictions of animals.
The hand reaching for the jewelry represents the common class reaching for the luxury of royals. This piece from my sustained investigation focused on the extravagance of the Baroque period. The Baroque period is known for its elegant patterns, bright colors, and over the top clothing and style. I included many bright colors in this piece in order to allude to the over the top and bright fashion of the time period. 
I decided to focus on a staple of the Baroque period: the very intricate patterned fans. This is one of two pieces that go together. This piece focuses on the common fashion of the 1930's during the Great Depression. I painted a very simple sweater, with small details such as buttons and a collar. This represents the overall fashion of the time period: very simplistic (due to lack of money) with smaller details in order to add some interest. This is the second of two pieces that go together. This piece focuses on the high fashion of the 1930's. I painted an elegant gown with an intricate pattern. This piece from my sustained investigation focuses on the shoes of the 1970's. The 1970's is extremely well known for its interesting fashion that includes bright colors and interesting patterns. The shoes of this time period were very large and over the top, as this was the era of disco and dancing. This piece focused on the hats of the 1940's, a very popular accessory during the time. Every woman in the 40's wore a hat, it was very fashionable during this era. This piece uses expression and medium in order to connect the fashion with the events during the time period. This piece focuses on the boyish figure that was made very popular during the 1920's. Due to the first wave of feminism, the fashion became much more loose and free. Woman moved away from tight corsets that highlighted their waists to shapeless dresses that hid their figures. This piece focuses on the very popular early 2000's low rise jeans. This was a staple during this time period. Everyone, no matter what style they preferred (punk, emo, preppy, etc.) wore low-rise jeans. It was one of the biggest and most famous trends, therefore I thought it was very important that I dedicated a piece to it. I focused on creating a lot of texture in this piece.
