Marco Polo and the Americans both sailed on a cargo ship, but for the Americans it was a much harder thing to do. It took the Americans a lot of time to even get a hold of any type of a cargo ship, which I believe was because of the time. In the time of Marco Polo, cargo ships were very much used and available. Marco Polo had explained how there would be road markings to help with direction and the Americans saw them as well!  They also traveled on horses just like Marco Polo, but to leave they needed a way out.
