Dorsey was the reason I went through the LTA program and a career change. Dorsey was selfless and always willing to share her time with others, she was my official mentor during the program in which I graduated last May. Her enthusiasm was contagious (you could feel it even through and email) and her smile lit up the room. She will be missed. Amanda Hunhoff-Sepulveda

- Dore Elementary

I remember Dorsey telling me that she was going snowmobiling for a long weekend. I asked who she was going with, she said, "My sweetheart, Sheila." This was the first time she had mentioned Sheila to me and she had such excitement and anticipation. She could make anything fun, but I'm sure the people who rented her the snowmobile still remember her for her enthusiasm and gratitude she showed. She made everything fun. --Nora Wiltse

Having a conversation with Dorsey was like putting on a pair of dry socks after stepping in a puddle. Dorsey was everyone’s North Star. I remember calling her when my dog died, and she sat on the phone with me and listened to my deep grief and we were just sad together. Whenever you called Dorsey, she “knew you,” and most importantly, she knew how to register that value in all the depths of its meaning. I will miss calling her. I will miss her vivacious laugh. She left a mark on all of our hearts. Dorsey was caring, generous with her time, never told her students “no,” lived her life with zero regrets, and believed in doing her part by helping others. The world could use more people like Dorsey. - Andie Townhouse

Dorsey was the first person I met many many years ago when there was a Librarian Mentor program at Medill. We met once a month and learned the ins and outs of being a school librarian. I was so afraid of doing something wrong at my school, thinking how easy that would be. Then Dorsey started sharing the stories of some of the libraries she had been in and I knew I'd be just fine. I would never have to worry about books with brown pages that had an inch of dust on them!

She always called me Carol Ann instead of Carol and that made me feel like she knew me and always had my best interest and those of my students at heart with her 'always on target' advice. There will never be another like her. She will always have a special place in my heart as she shaped my career as a school librarian. Godspeed Dorsey.

Dorsey and I met when we were both young librarians. She cared more deeply about kids and connecting them to the right books than anyone else I know. Her wisdom, wicked humor and Dorsey-isms are deep in my heart. I considered her a beloved friend and will carry her spirit and joy and belief in us all to do our best for kids with me forever.

Dorsey always knew how to make you feel important. Like you were the only person in a room even though she was doing that for everyone in the room. She always greeted me by both my first and last name: Brenda Garcia. I will miss that. It's like she knew I love my last name- but I know she did that for most people. When my husband started volunteering for Battle of the Books with me, she put him on the list as Frank Garcia. I didn't take his last name, he didn't take mine but we both felt like he should have😂. It has a nice ring to it. He actually loves being called Frank Garcia now.
