Ironically, it was a movement that started 60 years after his death, since during his life he spoke out against slavery and swore he would work towards freedom for slaves. His story of education, enlightenment and escape—linking learning to freedom—was an inspiration to many seeking social justice and freedom.  Among those whom he inspired were Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Cesar Chavez and many others. In his Narrative, a book he knew would be read by many, he taught the ideas of resilience, courage and, above all, stubborn persistence in the fight for African-American freedom.  He is a great example of a person who teaches after death the qualities that are needed to launch a movement. He showed an awareness of social justice in all his work. Cesar Chavez led protests against the inhumane treatment of migrant workers and eventually of all workers who were underpaid, poorly treated, and exploited by their bosses. He worked with African Americans, Puerto Ricans, Filipinos, and Chicanos most of all, but not only. He taught them non-violence and admired the methods of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Gandhi. He started an organization, the National Farm Workers Association, to serve as a union for workers and encouraged farm workers to work together and act together to be more effective. Strikes, boycotts, and marches led to many successes. He created great pride and dignity and hope in people. Ceasar Chavez fought for farm workers because they spend their lives for less then minimum wage , so he wanted the workers to get payed more and have much better conditions . He started this march in the late 1950's .
