There was a general agreement that reading aloud to students is important. Many of us believe students should have a choice in what they get to read. It should be something that interests them, and sometimes may not be on their reading level.

Every library does this differently. This conflicts with the idea that students should have free choice while reading. They may like a particular book, but are told "it's too hard" or "too easy" for them. Mary Beth reminded us how it can be hard on kids when they are expected to jump to the next reading level. She shared experiences as a mom with her own boys.
