PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The National Center for Earth and Space Science Education announces Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) Mission 20 to the International Space Station. This opportunity gives students across your institution the ability to design and propose microgravity experiments to fly in low-Earth orbit on the International Space Station (ISS). Experiments are designed to real world engineering and technology constraints imposed by the flight certified mini-lab that must be used, and the nature of flight operations to and from Low Earth Orbit. One experiment at each institution will be selected to fly to ISS on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launching from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in FL. Your experiment will launch from historic pad 39A, the same pad from which all Apollo missions to the Moon launched, and 82 Space Shuttle missions. Astronauts aboard ISS will operate the experiment for 4-6 weeks before it is returned to Earth and to your community's student flight team for harvesting and analysis. SSEP is not a simulation. We are truly inviting your community to be part of America's Space Program.

Over the history of human spaceflight, a mission patch has been associated with every NASA mission. A college or university can engage hundreds of students in mission patch art and design competitions - as possibly outreach to local school districts, with two patches selected to fly with the flight experiment. SSEP is therefore an authentic STEAM initiative. We invite communities to use their mission patch competition to also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon missions, and humans returning to the Moon in likely 2025 with NASA's Artemis Program.

An important consideration - the expectation is that faculty mentors in a participating 2- or 4-year college or university will engage at least 30 undergraduate students over 9 weeks of experiment design and proposal writing spanning January 6 through March 10, 2025. Students will form into at least 10 teams, each team designing a microgravity experiment in a science discipline of their choice. Each team writes a formal proposal to make the case for why their experiment should be selected for flight to ISS. Your students will be engaged in a very real research proposal competition, focusing on technical writing, just like professional scientists and engineers. A national review board meeting in Washington, DC, will select the flight experiment for your community, and do the same for each of the other Mission 20 participating communities.

The Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) provides a fully authentic research competition as a STEM Project Based Learning experience. Launch of the Mission 20 flight experiments is currently projected for Fall 2025.

Our organization represents local agencies certified by the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal-EPA) as Unified Program Agencies (CUPAs). Our member agencies regulate facilities with hazardous materials, hazardous waste, aboveground storage tanks and underground storage tanks throughout the State.

Every year, the California CUPA Forum, with our partner State agencies, hosts the annual CUPA Training Conference. Our 2025 training conference will be held at the Anaheim Marriott.  Our last in-person conference had over 3,000 professionals.

The CUPA Conference Student Committee would like to extend an invitation to all full-time students who may be interested in a career path in the field of hazardous materials to attend. 

This opportunity is open to both undergraduate and graduate candidates. We hope your students will be interested and take the opportunity to experience a conference where they can meet and interact with professionals currently employed in the hazardous materials regulatory programs. If a student is interested, we will pair them with a mentor at the conference.

My name is Andreanna Bowers, and I am a 4^th-year medical student at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine reaching out to you on behalf of the Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (AMOPS). The Cornell Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science is pleased to announce its 2025 Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program.

Students will work on individual research projects with Cornell faculty and research staff on a wide range of topics in planetary science, solar system exploration, astrobiology, exoplanets, radio, infrared, and submillimeter astronomy, and related theoretical topics as well as astronomical instrumentation. In addition to their research, students will participate in a series of group activities including lectures, roundtables, workshops and one or two field trips. 

For each participant, a stipend of $7,000 will be provided for the ten-week session, plus $1,250 for housing and meals and up to $800 for travel to and from Ithaca. The program will also provide up to $1,000 to travel to present results at a professional meeting, observe or other research-related activities. Tentative program dates, to be confirmed by February 28, 2025, are Monday, June 2, 2025, to Friday, August 8, 2025. In case of conflict with a student’s academic schedules, dates may be adjusted if approved by the student’s mentor.

To be eligible, undergraduate students must be US citizens or permanent residents. Eligible candidates must have completed at least one year of undergraduate academic training by June 2025 and will graduate at or after the end of the 2025 fall semester or quarter at their school. 

Astronomy, astrophysics, planetary science, physics, geophysics, computer science and engineering students are encouraged to apply.

REU projects offer an opportunity to explore the nation's diverse student talent pool and broaden participation in science and engineering. Women, underrepresented minorities, persons with disabilities, veterans and other non-traditional students are encouraged to apply.

• Boston University Photonics Center hosts the NSF REU Site in Integrated Nanomanufacturing, with interdisciplinary nanoscale research opportunities at the interface between engineering, biology, physics, and chemistry.

• The Center hosts three additional REU programs focused on heart tissue engineering, materials science, and photonics and optics.

• All REU students work on authentic interdisciplinary research projects under the mentorship of BU faculty and graduate students.

• Hands-on research in state-of-the-art laboratories at Boston University’s Charles River Campus.
