what stood out to me was the geography. although i've ever really known what i've seen on tv or on tv shows. the media for programs only show the desert and the glorification of the war out there. before i knew there was war but again i falsley assumed it was all desert set, sand, wind, the blistering heat, no water. but looking into it the geography is widley diffrent as it includes rivers, forests and mountain ranges

A lot of topics discussed in these articles changed my perspective on things. I didn't realize that the middle east is actually very urban, ramadan fasting has acceptions, and arab women are not as oppressed and quiet as we may think.I also did not realize that arab is a race, and muslim is a religion, I thought that using the term arab would be making an offensive assumption (I don't know why). It's kind of refreshing to have misconceptions like this proved wrong.

what mostly stood out to me was some of the rhetoric and misconceptions through media and even movies. I notice there are just alot of media that quickly derives the mix ups and thoughts between muslims/Arabs. There is an actual difference between the two that people do not really care to correct themselves about. (muslim- is more of a religious stance, Arab-people who inhabit the middle east area)
