Growing Their Hair Out :
1. Manifest Function- Hipsters believe in naturalness, thus, they often grow their hair out. It has a scruffy, sometimes untamed appearance which can be thrown into a bun, or left down under a hat. They understand personal hygiene, though don't feel shame in letting their bodies carry out its natural functions like hair growth.
2. Dysfuntion- Excessive facial and head hair growth sometimes is negatively perceived by others. This can cause hipsters to unintentionally receive dirty looks or remarks because others misunderstand their appearance and associate them with being homeless or incapable of showering or getting frequent trimmings.
3. Feminist Theory- feminists would look at their decisions of letting their hair grow out as a positive. Feminists fight for gender equality among both women and men. They would see no issue with a male wanting to grow his hair out longer as a woman often does.

Example of Ethnocentrism & Cultural Relativism:

Ethnocentrism:
Hipsters want to encourage others to practice similar customs to create more peace and balance within society; though, they don't consider themselves superior or more elite than their surrounding subcultures and traditions. Hipsters are motivated to reach their goals to create a more complete community with equality and justice. Their intentions are positive and passionate, with hopes of creating progress. They favor the health of the environment, education, natural, organic food products, anti-materialism, and social, political freedoms. They're constantly fighting for the rights of minority groups and movements to serve protection to the environment to sustain its life. As well, thrift shopping is very common because they believe in reusing and recycling used products to make a new as they don't prefer to waste. Furthermore, this also means they're very interested in organic food products that don't include many artificial, unnatural ingredients, thus, living what most would consider a healthier lifestyle in terms of eating habits.

Cultural Relativism:
Many people look down at Hipsters because they hold differing viewpoints and beliefs than others, thus, sometimes people fail to recognize the good they're trying to accomplish. For example, many people find it trashy that hipsters constantly thrift shop, using already-worn clothing because it expresses that they're "unclean" or "financially incapable" of buying new items for themselves. Though, their reasons are not because they are lazy and unwilling, but they see beauty in used items and re-beautify them by giving new purpose. Hipsters do not negatively perceive other cultures and their customs, but rather recognize their differences in beliefs and values. They've become more well-known over the years, receiving some negative attention, but also positive as people have learned more about their motivations and reasons behind their actions.
