The mission is to find the problem in the computer, the Stormbreaker, made by Herod Sayle - information which Ian told Mr.Blunt before his death. Through the event, Alex faces dangers such as getting trapped, having to hide from assassins, and these may have all lead to death. While many people, including the trainees at the MI6 camp (including wolf) thought that it was a waste of effort and time to train Alex Rider, a young school boy, he shatters everyone’s expectations and succeeds in the mission. Also, in the beginning of the text, Alex Rider was put on a test to see how much he could handle. He did not know this, so Alex’s main purpose was to escape from the locked room in the sixth floor and enter Ian Rider’s office (which was off limits for Alex during the time). He went out through the window and up the flagpole to enter Ian Rider’s office through the windows. Although this was a test, Alex did not know that he was being tested, and had successfully reached Ian’s office. Mr.Blunt and the employees did not expect this from such a young school boy, but Alex’s talent, or accomplishments awed them.
All of Alex’s journey leads to the essential goal of finding the mysterious secret of the Stormbreaker and why it shouldn’t be released to the world. While everyone discouraged him and thought that it was a poor decision to make Alex a spy (a job which included chasing, killing, and torturing), he excelled everyone’s expectations of him and completed the mission.

Ross, a boy who works in the Carstairs' family, faced many different risks. Holmes asked him to spy on the Flat Cap gangs for a shilling. To Ross, a shilling was a big amount, so he went on the spy. However, later on, he was found in the river, deadly beaten up. Although he was found dead, he had scribbled notes that helped Holmes solve the mystery of what the House of Silk was. In Ross’ case, he went through a severe difficulty of death, but in the end, succeeded in gathering the information. Another example in the text which supports the theme is Holmes. Although he is known to be a major detective, he faces as many struggles as other people. When he was accused of being the murderer and was locked in the underground prison, he had no way out. The very next day was the trial, and, according to Watson, te trial was going to be biased and Holmes had no chance of avoiding his execution. If Holmes hadn’t acted quick enough or didn’t think of an idea, he would have died and the story would have changed with the triumph of Mrs.Carstairs, the leader of the Flat Cap gang. Nobody, even Watson, estimated or thought that Holmes could possibly escape, especially when there were dozens of guards and alarms to prevent escape. This was why Watson was trying to bring the escape key to him, thinking that it was impossible, even for Holmes, to escape. However, Holmes surprised everyone when he was found missing the later day. The text later explains that Holmes has pretended to be on food poisoning, and had moved to the patient’s room. He knew that nobody in supervision cared to notice that the assistant, Rivers was absent that day. So, he slid out and pretended to be Rivers, the assistant. When he went into the patient’s room, Holmes was gone (because he was pretending to be Rivers and was checking on his own empty room), and the whole group of supervisors got in panic. They went out on the search for Holmes, and while they were distracted, he casually walked out the door. Even when Holmes was telling this to Watson, he could not help but show his astonishment about Holmes’ adept accomplishment and escape.
