Could you provide me with specific examples from your own teaching experience or from some of the teachers you supervise?  Making good relationships with kids is key. Be consistent with your expectations of kids. The rewards are the students you see as adults and they are doing well and remember being in your class. I remember a specific student of mine that actually failed my class but when I saw him as an adult, he told me he loved my class. He always knew what to expect and he could tell that I genuinely cared about my students. He told me it just took him longer to realize this.

Consider various aspects of education reform, funding, state assessments, etc… State assessments are good for some information but I do not think they would be my soul indicator on how a school is doing.
