A consumer is a person who purchases goods and services for personal use. Everyone is a consumer of something. Even though everyone is a consumer people will try to be a good consumer and look at the backgrounds of companies before buying from them. This is important because the people buying rubber from the Congo did not. Since rubber had just gotten big with cars and other things. People wanted to buy lots of rubber for these things without looking at the background of it. This is important the people not doing their background check they were the reason 10 million Congolese people were killed.

This meant the people continued to be in poverty and consumers continued to not look closer at what was happening.

Someone looking at this for the first time might think that Leopold was the one that killed all those people. This may be true but he was able to kill all those people because of the consumers. Because so many people were buying from him he was able to get so much money and become so power hungry because consumers were buying from him. Everything he did was funded by the consumer because they did not look. This is why I think that the consumers were the ones that are guilty for killing 10 million Congo people.
