Businesses in the creative industry serve a variety of purposes, all of which revolve around the creation and distribution of artistic and cultural products. These products may include films, television shows, music, literature, and visual art, among others.

One of the primary purposes of businesses in the creative industry is to generate profits through the sale of these products. This is typically achieved through various forms of distribution, such as the sale of physical copies, digital downloads, streaming services, and licensing agreements. Businesses in this industry may also generate revenue through live performances, ticket sales, and merchandise sales.

In addition to generating profits, businesses in the creative industry also serve to provide a platform for artists to showcase their work and reach a wider audience. This is particularly important for emerging artists who may not have the resources or connections to reach a large audience on their own. Businesses in the creative industry may also support the development of new talent through initiatives such as artist development programs and mentorship opportunities.

Another important purpose of businesses in the creative industry is to contribute to the cultural diversity and richness of society. Through the production and distribution of diverse and culturally significant works, businesses in this industry play a vital role in preserving and promoting cultural traditions and values.

Despite their important contributions to society, businesses in the creative industry often face challenges and obstacles. One of the most significant challenges is the need to adapt to rapidly changing technology and distribution platforms. This has led to significant disruption in the industry, as traditional models of distribution have been replaced by new, digital platforms (Dwyer, 2017). Another challenge faced by businesses in the creative industry is the need to balance the need for profits with the desire to support and promote artistic expression. This can be a delicate balance, and businesses in this industry must often navigate complex legal and ethical issues in order to maintain a sustainable and successful business model (Bryant, 2018).

In conclusion, businesses in the creative industry serve a variety of purposes, including the generation of profits, the promotion of artistic expression, and the contribution to cultural diversity. Despite facing challenges and obstacles, these businesses play a vital role in the production and distribution of artistic and cultural products and are an important part of the cultural fabric of society.

References:

Bryant, J.

The creative industry, which includes fields such as advertising, film, music, and design, is constantly evolving and growing in demand. It is an industry that is driven by innovation and creativity, and business ownership plays a crucial role in its success.

One of the main advantages of business ownership in the creative industry is the ability to have control over the creative direction of a project. When working for a company, individuals may have to adhere to certain guidelines or constraints set by their superiors. However, as a business owner, individuals have the autonomy to pursue their own vision and ideas, leading to a more authentic and unique final product.

Additionally, business ownership allows for the opportunity to build a personal brand and reputation. As a business owner, individuals have the ability to set their own prices, negotiate contracts, and build relationships with clients. This can lead to a more profitable and successful business, as well as the ability to choose the projects and clients that align with the values and goals of the business.

Another important aspect of business ownership in the creative industry is the ability to foster a positive work culture and environment. As a business owner, individuals have the power to create a positive and supportive workplace culture that promotes creativity and collaboration. This not only benefits the employees but also leads to a higher quality of work and increased productivity.

However, it is important to note that business ownership in the creative industry also comes with its own set of challenges. One of the main challenges is the financial risk involved. As a business owner, individuals are responsible for the financial success of their business, which can be unpredictable in the creative industry. It is important for business owners to be aware of this risk and to have a solid business plan in place to mitigate potential financial setbacks.

In conclusion, business ownership plays a vital role in the success of the creative industry. It allows for control over the creative direction of a project, the opportunity to build a personal brand and reputation, and the ability to foster a positive work culture. While it does come with its own set of challenges, the benefits of business ownership in the creative industry far outweigh the risks.

Setting Business Aims and objectives

Setting business aims and objectives is an essential task for any business, especially in the creative industry. This process helps to define the company's goals and guide decision making towards achieving them. In this essay, I will discuss how to set business aims and objectives in the creative industry, with references to relevant literature and examples.

According to the Small Business Administration (SBA) (2021), the first step in setting business aims and objectives is to define the business's mission. The mission statement should outline the purpose of the business and the unique value it provides to customers. For example, a creative agency's mission might be "to provide high-quality design and marketing services that help businesses stand out in their industry."

Next, it is essential to identify the business's target audience. This involves understanding the demographics, preferences, and needs of the customers the business aims to serve. For example, a creative agency that specializes in social media marketing would need to understand the habits and preferences of their target audience on social media platforms.

Once the business's mission and target audience are defined, the next step is to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives. SMART objectives help to ensure that the aims of the business are clear and achievable. For example, a creative agency might set a SMART objective to "increase website traffic by 20% within six months by implementing a new SEO strategy."

To achieve these objectives, it is essential to create a plan of action. This can involve setting budgets, assigning tasks, and establishing timelines. It is also crucial to continually monitor and review progress to ensure that the business is on track to achieve its aims and objectives.

In conclusion, setting business aims and objectives in the creative industry involves defining the business's mission, identifying the target audience, setting SMART objectives, and creating a plan of action. By following these steps, creative businesses can ensure that they are focused on achieving their goals and providing value to their customers.

References:

Small Business Administration (2021).

Tacita Dean is a British artist who has gained international recognition for her work in various mediums, including drawing, film, and photography. She is known for her contemplative and poetic approach to her subjects, and her work often explores themes of memory, loss, and the passage of time. Dean has had numerous solo exhibitions around the world and has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Kurt Schwitters Prize in 2012.

Dean's work has had a significant impact on photographers today, particularly those interested in exploring the boundaries of the medium. Her use of unconventional materials, such as 16mm film, and her experimentation with techniques such as cyanotype printing, has inspired many photographers to experiment with new approaches to the medium.

One notable example of Dean's influence is her series of cyanotype prints, "The Green Ray." This series consists of photographs of the sun, captured at different times of day, printed using a cyanotype process that results in a blue-hued image. The title of the series refers to a meteorological phenomenon known as the green ray, which is a brief flash of green light that appears on the horizon just before sunrise or after sunset. The series is a meditation on the passage of time, as each photograph captures a moment that will never be repeated. The use of cyanotype printing, with its distinctive blue hue, adds to the sense of otherworldliness and timelessness in these images.

Dean's work has also influenced photographers in terms of her use of the medium to explore themes of memory and loss. In her series "The Lost Thing," Dean used found photographs to create a meditation on the nature of memory and the way we remember the past. The images in the series are collages that combine found photographs with handwritten text, creating a visual record of memories that is both personal and universal. This series has inspired photographers to consider the ways in which the medium can be used to explore themes of memory and loss, and to think about the ways in which we remember the past.

In conclusion, Tacita Dean is an influential artist whose work has had a significant impact on photographers today.
Starry Night by Van Gogh

Starry Night, painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1889, is one of the most recognizable and celebrated works of art in the world. The painting depicts a view of the village of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where van Gogh was living at the time, with a swirling sky filled with stars above.

The first thing that stands out in this painting is the use of colour. Van Gogh's use of bright, bold colours is characteristic of his style, and Starry Night is no exception. The sky is a deep blue with swirling clouds that are painted in shades of purple, pink, and white. The stars stand out in sharp contrast, their yellow and white light adding a sense of movement to the painting. The village below is mostly dark, with the only sources of light coming from the crescent moon and a few scattered windows.

The composition of the painting is also worth noting. The painting is divided into two distinct sections: the sky and the village. The sky takes up the majority of the canvas, while the village is relegated to the bottom. This creates a sense of depth, as the viewer's eye is pulled upwards into the night sky. The swirling clouds and stars add to this sense of movement and depth, making it feel as though the viewer is being pulled into the painting.

The use of brushstrokes is also an important aspect of Starry Night. Van Gogh used thick, bold brushstrokes to create the swirling clouds and the texture of the stars. This gives the painting a sense of energy and movement as if the sky is alive and constantly changing. The brushstrokes also add to the sense of depth, as they create the illusion of the clouds being closer to the viewer.

Finally, it's worth noting the symbolism of the painting. The stars are often associated with hope and dreams, and in Starry Night, they seem to symbolise life's fleeting nature. The swirling clouds and the crescent moon suggest that change and uncertainty are constant in life. The village, despite its darkness, is a reminder that there is always hope in the darkness.

In conclusion, Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh is a masterful work of art that showcases the artist's bold use of colour, composition, and brushstrokes. The painting's symbolism and subject matter add depth and meaning to the work, making it one of the most iconic and beloved works of art in the world.

The Water-Lily pond by Monet

One of Claude Monet's best examples of Impressionism is "The Water-Lily Pond." In this painting, Monet unique use of colour and light is intresting. The sunshine filters through the trees and reflects off the pond's surface in the painting, giving it a sense of movement and energy. This constantly changing use of light and shadow is what makes it stand out from other similar works.

The painting gives a feeling of movement because to the artist's use of "broken colour". Instead of using smooth, continuous brushstrokes, this technique applies colour to the canvas in little, irregular strokes. The viewer's attention is pulled to the abundance of colour and light, which gives the picture a sense of energy.

Monet has also used a technique known as "pointillism" to create the impression of light and movement in the painting. This technique involves using small, individual dots of color to create the illusion of a larger area of color. This creates a sense of depth and texture in the painting, as the viewer's eye is drawn to the different areas of color and light.

In addition, Monet's use of color is also noteworthy. The artist has used a range of warm and cool colors to create a sense of movement and depth in the painting. The warm colors, such as orange and yellow, are used to create the impression of light and warmth, while the cool colors, such as blue and green, are used to create the impression of shadow and depth.

Overall, Monet's use of Impressionist techniques in "The Water-Lily Pond" creates a sense of movement and vitality in the painting. The artist's use of light and color creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, and creates the impression of movement and depth in the painting. It is a beautiful and striking example of Monet's mastery of Impressionist techniques.

As an artist, I've learned a few tips and tricks for setting up an art account on social media. Here's what I've found to be helpful:

Choose the right platform: There are so many social media platforms out there, but not all of them are ideal for showcasing your artwork. Consider platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook where you can post high-quality images and videos of your work.

Define your brand: Before you start posting, take some time to think about what you want your art account to represent. What is your style, what are your passions, and what do you want to convey through your work? This will help you create a cohesive and consistent brand image.

Invest in high-quality photos: Your art should be the centrepiece of your account, so it's essential to showcase it in the best light possible. Invest in a high-quality camera, or consider hiring a professional photographer to take photos of your work.

Be consistent: Consistency is key when it comes to social media. Plan ahead and decide on a posting schedule that works for you. Try to post regularly, whether it's once a day or once a week.

Engage with your audience: Social media is about connecting with others, so make sure to engage with your followers. Respond to comments and messages, and ask for feedback. This will help you build a strong community around your work.

Collaborate with other artists: Collaborating with other artists is a great way to reach a new audience and showcase your work in a different light. Reach out to other artists and see if they're interested in a collaboration.

Promote your work offline: Don't just rely on social media to promote your art. Consider exhibiting your work in local galleries, or reaching out to potential clients directly.

By following these tips, I've been able to build up my art account on social media. It takes time and effort, but it's worth it to see your work being appreciated by a wider audience.

I collected data from the Follow records of my art account for the past 3 months. The data were sorted according to the age and gender of the customers who interacted with posts. I used this information to analyse the customer demographics of how successful my art business would be once I started officially selling.

Results:

The data shows that the majority of followers who interacted with my posts are between the ages of 18-24. This age group accounts for approximately 60% of the sales. The remaining 40% of sales are spread across other age groups.

Regarding gender, the data shows that the account has a 50/50 gender following. This means that the account has an equal number of male and female consumers. The data also shows that the gender of the followers will not impact their purchasing behaviour.

What this means:

The results indicate that my work is most popular among young adults. This age group is known for its interest in new and innovative art styles. They are also likely to be more open to experimenting with different forms of artistic expression. My paintings' vibrant and expressive nature seems appealing to this demographic.

The 50/50% gender following of the account is significant, as it suggests that the paintings sold by the business are not gender-specific. They appeal to both males and females. This suggests that my art can target a broad range of customers and not just a specific gender.

Conclusion:

The customer demographics of the account are mainly young adults between the ages of 18-24, with a 50/50 gender following. My findings suggest that I should focus its marketing efforts on young adults while maintaining its gender-neutral approach. I can maximize its sales and reach a broader range of customers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XOQexr4QTg

Shara Hughes is an Atlanta-based artist whose work is recognized for its vibrant colors and playful forms. In her interview with Art21, titled "Changing What We See," Hughes discusses her creative process, influences, and her approach to making art.

One of the notable things about Hughes' interview is her emphasis on the importance of her surroundings and experiences in shaping her work. She describes how her childhood spent in rural Georgia, surrounded by nature, has influenced her use of color and forms in her paintings. She also speaks about the impact of her travels to different places, including Iceland and Scotland, on her work.

Hughes' approach to painting is intuitive and experimental. She talks about how she starts with an idea or image in her head but allows the painting to evolve organically as she works. She is not afraid to take risks or make mistakes, and she embraces the unpredictability of the creative process.

Another notable aspect of Hughes' interview is her emphasis on the viewer's experience of her work. She acknowledges that her paintings are not meant to be representations of reality, but rather an interpretation of the world around her. She encourages viewers to approach her paintings with an open mind and to allow themselves to be transported to a different place or state of mind.

Throughout the interview, Hughes also touches on various art historical influences that have informed her work. She cites artists such as Philip Guston and Joan Mitchell, as well as the tradition of landscape painting, as sources of inspiration. However, she also emphasizes the importance of developing her own unique voice and not being constrained by past artistic movements or styles.

Overall, Hughes' interview provides valuable insights into her creative process and her approach to making art. She emphasizes the importance of being open to new experiences and influences, taking risks, and embracing the unpredictable nature of the creative process. Her work is a testament to the power of color and form to convey emotions and evoke a sense of wonder in the viewer.

As an artist, I am passionate about creating vibrant, colourful landscapes with a whimsical feel. My paintings are heavily inspired by mythology and the natural world, and I aim to capture the essence of these subjects in each and every one of my works.

One of my biggest influences is the great Vincent van Gogh, whose bold use of colour and dynamic brushstrokes have always resonated with me. I'm also drawn to the impressionist style of Claude Monet, particularly his ability to capture the changing light and mood of a scene with his deft brushwork.

Despite these influences, my paintings have a unique and unmistakable feel that is entirely my own. I strive to create works that are full of life and energy, evoking a sense of wonder and magic in the viewer.

Many of my pieces are set in lush, fantastical landscapes that are heavily inspired by the mythologies of various cultures. I believe that these stories hold a deep significance and offer us insights into the human experience that are just as relevant today as they were centuries ago.

My paintings are intended to transport the viewer to another world entirely. Through my use of vibrant colours and bold brushwork, I hope to create an immersive experience that speaks to the soul.

Ultimately, I create these paintings because I love them.
Soft AI Art

As a fine art student, I have been following the emergence of Soft AI paintings in the art world with great interest. Soft AI paintings are created using artificial intelligence algorithms that generate unique and often mesmerizing digital images that can be printed on canvas and exhibited in galleries.

The rise of Soft AI paintings has stirred up a lot of controversy in the art world. Some traditionalists argue that these paintings lack the human touch that is essential in creating true art. Others see Soft AI paintings as a new and exciting medium that pushes the boundaries of what art can be.

One of the most significant impacts of Soft AI paintings is the democratization of art. With the rise of digital technology, anyone with access to a computer and some basic software can create art. This means that the art world is no longer the exclusive domain of elite artists with expensive studios and fancy equipment. Soft AI paintings are accessible to anyone with a computer and an internet connection, which has opened up a whole new world of artistic expression.

Another impact of Soft AI paintings is the blurring of the line between art and technology. Traditionally, art has been seen as a human endeavor, but Soft AI paintings challenge this assumption. These paintings are created by algorithms that are programmed to generate images based on certain parameters. While the algorithms themselves are created by humans, the resulting images are often unpredictable and seem to have a life of their own.

Soft AI paintings also raise questions about authorship and ownership in the art world. Who is the artist when a painting is created by an algorithm? Is it the programmer who created the algorithm or the person who selected the parameters that led to the final image? These questions have yet to be fully resolved, and they will likely continue to be debated as Soft AI paintings become more prevalent in the art world.

In conclusion, Soft AI paintings are a new and exciting medium that is challenging traditional notions of what art can be. As a fine art student, I find these paintings fascinating and look forward to seeing how they will continue to shape the art world in the years to come.

I have always been drawn to Studio Ghibli's unique and captivating art style. From the stunning landscapes to the detailed character designs, the studio's works are a true masterpiece of animation.

One of the most notable features of Studio Ghibli's art style is the attention to detail. Each frame of their films is carefully crafted with intricate details that bring the world to life. From the delicate movement of the leaves on the trees to the subtle expressions on the characters' faces, the studio's animators leave no stone unturned in their quest to create a truly immersive experience for the audience.

Another defining aspect of Studio Ghibli's art style is the use of vibrant colours. The colours in their films are rich and vibrant, and often evoke a sense of wonder and awe. This use of colour is not only visually appealing but also serves to enhance the emotional impact of the story. The colours are used to create mood and atmosphere, and often convey the characters' emotions in a subtle yet powerful way.

In addition to the use of colour, Studio Ghibli's art style also incorporates elements of traditional Japanese art. The landscapes and settings in their films are often inspired by traditional Japanese paintings, with a focus on natural beauty and harmony. This fusion of traditional Japanese art with modern animation techniques creates a unique and visually stunning aesthetic.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Studio Ghibli's art style is the way in which it portrays human emotion. The characters in their films are not just beautifully designed, but also incredibly expressive. The subtle movements of their faces and body language convey a depth of emotion that is rarely seen in animated films. This attention to detail in character design and animation is a testament to the studio's dedication to their craft.

In conclusion, Studio Ghibli's art style is a true work of art, and one that has captured the hearts of audiences around the world. From the attention to detail to the use of vibrant colours, their films are a visual feast for the eyes. As an artist, I am constantly inspired by their work and the way in which they have pushed the boundaries of animation. It is a true testament to the power of art to evoke emotion and tell a compelling story.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Newalk Museum in Leicester, and I must say that it was an experience that left me thoroughly impressed. The museum boasts a vast collection of art from various periods and cultures, which makes it an excellent destination for art enthusiasts of all kinds.

The highlight of my visit to the museum was the latest art exhibition that they had on display. Titled "The Fabric of Being," the exhibition featured works of art that explored the concept of identity through various mediums, such as painting, sculpture, and installation.

One of the most striking pieces in the exhibition was a mixed media installation titled "Identity Crisis" by the artist Rebecca Johnson. The installation consisted of a series of mannequins dressed in clothes made from different fabrics and textures, with their faces covered by masks made from the same materials. The mannequins were arranged in a circular formation, with a mirror placed in the center, creating a sense of introspection and self-reflection.

Another piece that caught my attention was a series of paintings by the artist Lee Young. Titled "Portrait of the Self," the paintings depicted the artist's own face, but each painting was done in a different style, ranging from impressionism to abstract expressionism. The paintings were arranged in a way that highlighted the diversity of the artist's identity and the different facets of his personality.

Jeremy Weller, a contemporary artist known for his provocative and politically charged work, recently gave an artist talk in conjunction with his latest exhibition, THE RAGE. The exhibition, which is currently on view at the Tate Modern in London, features a series of mixed media installations and performances that explore themes of anger, injustice, and resistance.

During the talk, Weller spoke about the inspiration behind his work, citing a deep-seated frustration with the current state of the world as his primary motivation. He spoke about his belief in the power of art as a tool for social change, and how he hopes his work will inspire viewers to take action against the injustices they see around them.

One of the standout pieces in the exhibition is a large-scale installation titled "RAGE," which features a towering wall of photographs depicting instances of police brutality, political corruption, and environmental destruction. Weller explained that he wanted to create a visceral, immersive experience for viewers that would provoke an emotional response and spur them to action.

Another notable work in the exhibition is a performance piece titled "Silent Protest," which takes place daily at the Tate Modern. The piece features a group of performers wearing white masks and carrying signs that read "SILENT PROTEST" as they silently move through the museum's galleries. Weller explained that the piece is meant to evoke the feeling of being suffocated or silenced by oppressive forces, and to encourage viewers to reflect on their own experiences of marginalization and resistance.

Overall, THE RAGE is a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition that confronts some of the most pressing issues of our time with boldness and urgency. By using art as a means of political activism, Weller reminds us of the transformative power of creative expression and encourages us to use our own voices to effect change in the world around us.

The Expressionist Movement

The Expressionist Movement emerged in the early 20th century as a response to the changing social and cultural landscape of Europe. The movement was characterized by its rejection of traditional artistic conventions and a focus on the individual's subjective experience of the world. Expressionist art was often emotionally charged, featuring distorted forms, bold colors, and a raw intensity that was intended to provoke a reaction from the viewer.

At its core, the Expressionist Movement was a rebellion against the status quo. Artists were no longer content with simply imitating reality; they wanted to create something new, something that spoke to the unique experiences and emotions of the modern world. This rejection of traditional artistic values was reflected in the movement's rejection of naturalism and realism, which were seen as outdated and conservative.

Some of the most famous Expressionist artists include Edvard Munch, Wassily Kandinsky, and Franz Marc. Each of these artists contributed to the movement in their own unique way, using their art as a means of expressing their individual experiences and emotions.

Today, the influence of the Expressionist Movement can still be seen in art, literature, and film. Its legacy can be found in the works of contemporary artists who continue to explore the boundaries of artistic expression.

References:

Blakesley, R.

The necessity for this business to exist is the lack of guitar companies that focus on standing out, many guitarists want their guitars to stand out from the crowd of generic instruments as nearly everyone has seen a Strat or les paul but not one guitar on the market offers a hand-painted scene on the guitar, the closest was a signature Dave Mustaine guitar by Dean guitars in around 2010 which features a wrap design on the guitar which is in many ways completely different from a hand-painted design. The addition of a wrap to this guitar added well over $400 to its retail price whereas, for the same cost, we can produce a custom paint job on a guitar. By estimation, the product of this business will have a demand that way outweighs the supply and therefore will hold its niche in the market.

Interview 1: This is an excerpt from an interview with a local music shop owner about how these products would be sold and checking the possibility for the products to be sold within his shop.

Myself: Do you think that a guitar-building company would be able to start here well?

Shop Owner: In honesty, you have the benefit of the lack of music shops in Leicester and as far as I know there are no other guitar-building companies in Leicester but it all depends on the product you're going to make. If it's generic it most likely won't sell, we already have enough rip-off Fender products anyway.

Myself: We plan to make the guitars incredibly different from others you can get on the market at the moment as even at the lowest level guitars that we are producing, they will feature different techniques that other companies don't offer even with extremely high-end guitars such as hand painting designs onto the bodies and up the neck of the guitar.

Shop Owner: That's an interesting idea but what do you think is the reason that these other companies don't provide guitars that have been made using those techniques?

Myself: Its mostly down to how the production is performed, in our case we mainly use hand tools and non-automated machinery but companies that are bigger use CNC-based machines to make theirs and although this increases the production speed it also reduces the amount of customisation that can be done to individual guitars. It also comes down to the management of products, dedicating more money to add extra aesthetic features rather than just painting the guitar a block colour or bursting from one colour to another

Shop Owner: I like the idea of having handmade guitars in the market more but how are you going to produce them in mass?

Myself: To start with, the idea of exclusivity will be one of our major selling points as every guitar will come with a handwritten certificate of authenticity at least to start with.

Shop Owner: Id be able to put a couple of your guitars in here to advertise them for you and if those get sold we could work out some kind of agreement to have immediate payment for you rather than when the customer buys it you get paid, would that work for you?

Myself: Definitely, when we have 1 or 2 standard ones and one of the custom hand-painted ones done we will bring them over for you.
